Dear Classmates,

Forget about 2012 being the “end of the world” ~~ WE have a 45th Reunion to get to in May!

Our Beach Party Weekend will happen May 11-13, 2012 at the Bon~Aire Resort at 4350 Gulf Blvd on St Pete Beach.  It is a smaller, family-owned property with a beautiful beachfront, two pools, shuffleboard and a tiki-hut bar/restaurant.  It is big enough to spread out, but small enough we won’t lose one another.

The Bon-Aire phone numbers are 800-360-4350 or 727-360-5596 and their web address is www.bonaireresort.com. Two properties which are very close are the luxurious Don Ce Sar and the family-friendly Tradewinds resort.  Either site would be great alternatives and are less than a mile from the Bon-Aire. 

Our first night event is planned as Free-For-All –Friday at the Bon-Aire.  We’ll have a well-marked meet and greet suite starting at 7 p.m. where you can park your beverages and snacks.  The bar food at the Bon-Aire is excellent.  If you are not staying at the Bon-Aire, your best legal parking option is the St Pete Beach Access Lot located at 4700 Gulf Blvd where you can pay by the hour or $5 for the day.  There is also a Walgreens with a big parking lot across the street from Bon-Aire.  Park at your own risk.

Saturday daytime we will be chilling around the pool or the beach  before we head for Cheeseburger in Paradise , our Jimmy Buffet- themed dinner dance  from 7 p.m. til 11 p.m. Saturday at the St Pete Beach Community Center, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive, St Pete Beach .  The venue overlooks the Bay and Corey Causeway.  Wear your best parrot head (casual tropical) outfits!  For a light supper, we’ll have fresh-off-the grill burgers and/or fish.  After dinner we’ll have a reunion band play some of our favorite tunes so we can rock the night away--at least until 11 pm J.  We’ll have a beer, wine and mixers open bar, so plan ahead.  There is a trolley (bus) that will pick you up on Gulf Blvd to take you to the Community Center, but it doesn’t come back to the resort after 11 p.m.  So, you might want to have the number for BATS Taxi, 727-367-3702 if you don’t want to drive yourself.  The party will continue at Bel-Aire, we’re sure.  The cost for the dinner and dance is $45 per person.

 

On Sunday at noon there is 2 ½ hour New Orleans Jazz luncheon cruise along scenic inland waters on the StarLite Princess paddleboat docked at 4300 Pasadena Avenue S., St Petersburg (right over the Corey Causeway from St Pete Beach.)  The cost is $35 per person.  The web site is WWW.STARLITEDININGCRUISES.COM.  Bonnie Bray will do the booking for us. 

And, finally, there are cruises on Carnival Cruise lines leaving from Tampa and on Carnival or Royal Caribbean International cruises from Port Canaveral on Sunday or Monday if you want an add-on to your reunion weekend.  Get a group together to go or just sail off into the sunset on your own….

Thank you to all of you who worked so hard to bring about our 45th reunion!  It was great to see folks we haven't seen for 5 years...or more!  I was surprised to not see more folks there...maybe they're saving it up for 50 years

What a great reunion!  It was so good to renew old friendships, and start new ones.  Thanks to Becky, Steve, Bonnie, Fred and all of their helpers.  You all are to be commended for a great weekend.  I'm already looking forward to the next one!
