RE: Questions about you! Posted Sunday, January 31, 2010 07:43 PM 1. I live right here in St. Pete 2. I have lived in Mayville, NY (south of Buffalo) I lived for three years in Hawaii while serving with the US Army And of course several military bases during my nearly 10 years of service before returning home to St. Pete 3. If I could afford to build a second home somewhere it would be up in New England, maybe Vermont or Connecticut. Beautiful country. 4. Both parents are now gone but have twin sisters who live up in Ocala and work at WalMart. 5. Only place I might return to would be Hawaii. And that is on my "bucket List". 6. 7. No, haven't seen former classmates in years. 8. Right after school I was drafted into the US Army. Spent nearly 10 years in uniform. Remember it was the Viet Nam era. 9. Now I am retired and attending SPC. Something I have wanted to do for years. 10. I was looking for another challenge, after many years of working in retail I had "burned out" and had always wanted to try college. Now I am and love it. 11. I honestly didn't know what I wanted to do when school was over. Never really gave it a thought, then Uncle Sam contacted me and made that decision for me. 12. I worked in retail, usually in management for Sears, Scotty's, Office Depot and briefly took a break from that retail and worked for 8 years at Home Shopping Network in Customer Service. Those years could fill a book, believe me. 13. I have always wanted to travel through England visiting the historic sites and seeing the beautiful countryside and staying in an English village. That is also on my "bucket list". 14. I guess the high point of my life since high school, even though it didn't seem like it at the time, was my years serving in the military. It made me grow up, very fast, and got to see a little of the world outside of my own backyard. It is a maturing experience for sure. 15. No. not married. Guess I never found the right one or maybe I am just meant to be a bachelor. Do have a 13 year old Papillon I guess who is married to me. 16. No kids. (my dog is my kid I suppose.) 17. No grandkids. 18. In my spare time I enjoy reading, writing, (obviously from all this) movies and cooking ocassionally for friends. Right now with my college, a lot of time is working on assignments. 19. My only real vice, since I don't smoke and rarely drink, is books. I truly could be classified as a "BookAholic". Can't pass up a bookstore without going in and coming out with something. Amazon keeps me supplied too. But I guess that is not such a bad thing, as my Composition professor told me. Could be something worst I guess. I am just afraid that one of these days I'll pass away here in my apartment and the EMT's won't be able to get to me for all the books, a scary scene for sure! 20. No, don't get to travel much. Can't really afford it right now. But I have taken several trips by AMTRAK up the east coast during the fall to Washington DC. Great trip! I would like to do that again this fall, finances allowing it. 21.The farthest from home was my 13 month tour of duty in Korea. That was an experience. 22. Right now I don't really have a favorite place to go. 23. The place I want to go, as I mentioned, I want to go to England, the UK, for an extended visit. 24. I really don't feel my age (which we won't discuss). I am in pretty good health, one of the fortunate ones that have never been in the hospital or had any illness to speak of. I feel younger than I am, especially since returning to school. 25. Yes, now that you mention it, there is gray hair visible (haven't used my Grecian Formula for a few days). 26. I really don't think there is anything surprising about me, what you see is me! 27. Back in elementary school (Woodlawn) my nickname was "peanut" because I was shorter that most of the other kids. 28. No, no nicknames now, just use my middle name Larry. 29. Oh my, the memories. I wasn't very social back then actually. My memories are mostly just going to school, getting my homework in on time and struggling with Math (still am). 30. Least favorite memory would have to have occurred in my senior year when I was told I would not graduate with theclass because I was missing my gym/PT credit. I hated gym and refused to take it. My parents were called into the counselors' office (Lee Benjamin at the time) and informed of this situation. I had A's and B's in all my academics so he didn't want to suspend me but I had to have that miserable gym credit in order to graduate. I stood my ground and said "No" I wasn't taking it. So, i remained in school but was not able to walk the walk to get a diploma. But I made up for that by spending the next nearly 10 years in uniform. When I returned home and visited the counselors' office about getting my diploma and was asked "Where have you been?" I said "The Army." She laughed and said that she thought that that more than compensated for that missing phys ed credit. I went down to Tomlinson and took a credit course, passed with an A and received my NeHi diploma in the mail about a week later. In the end, I never did take that Gym class at NeHi. 31. If I was able to return to NeHi, maybe I would be more sociable, make more friends and just maybe take that damn Gym class. 32. My memories of my years there at NeHi are pretty good. Being that my family lived right across the street from the school we had the luxury of having lighting in our backyard from the stadium lights. On football nights we would have our cookouts, no lights needed as it was provided by the good 'ole NeHi Vikings! The bad part of all of this was on Saturday morning when dad when get woken up by the band practice out there on the field. He would say "Can't they play something different once in awhile?" 33. My favorite drink is PEPSI. Has been since a kid. No, don't like that "Throwback" they recently put out! 34. I am not really into sports too heavily but I "try" to route for the Bucs and the Rays when they are playing in season. I have been to several games with friends and have had a blast. 35. Favorite food has to be a good 'ole fashion hamburger. Best in town is Five Guys. I also love pizza (Pizza Hut) and Taco salad (my own). 36. Favorite movie? Gosh, that is a hard one. All the Star Wars naturally, any adventure film, Indiana Jones movies, just saw Avator and was blown away. I am pretty selective when it comes to movies. Before I pay the price to go see one, I make sure it is worth it. Oh, just for fun, Inglorious Bastards is great! 37. Favorite music? Okay, being the age I am, I am kind of retro when it comes to music. I like the disco sound (sorry), the 50's, the 60's and some of the 70's. I have to understand the lyrics and the music. 38. The last CD? Don't buy too many of them. I guess the last one was Michael Bouble. Sounds so like Sinatra. I am also a hugh fan of Cher (who isn't?). Have all of hers. Kind of eclectic I guess. 39. Haven't had the pleasure of meeting too many interesting or famous people during my life. I did encounter briefly Miss America and her court while I was stationed in Hawaii. They had flown over to meet the troops and they visited our airfield there. Of course, being just a lowly enlisted man, didn't get too close, but you can be sure the higher ranking officers did. 40. As for cool things I have done? Never been really adventurous. The coolest thing I guess was returning to school after so many years. I think, at my age, that is pretty "Cool". Been a real adventure for me. 41. Just a few words of wisdom: "A person wrapped up in himself makes a very small package." That quote I have remembered for most of my life, and I am not really sure who said it but it is so great. Also, evident from my current experience of returning to school, "You are never too old to learn and to enjoy the learning experience." 42. Nothing much more about me. Guess I have pretty much cover it all. As you, by now, can tell from this, I enjoy writing and enjoy putting thoughts on paper. Writing has been a hobby of mine for years and have always envied published writers. Maybe that is why I am a "bookaholic". So, this has been fun!! Looking forward to hearing from some of the others out there. Come on guys, loosen up and let us know "what's happening?" |

RE: Questions about you! Posted Thursday, February 4, 2010 03:05 PM Excellent! I don't think I realized you are back in St. Pete. I think of you as Key West.... I do enjoy your emails. They are the best I get and I steal them on a regular basis! |
