I sang in choir with John.

He was exceedingly courageous.

Many days he would be in a wheelchair when his knees were swollen. Even then, he was always very upbeat and cheerful.

I'm glad to hear he was able to live a long and rewarding life, in spite of his health issues.

Very inspiring!

In 8th grade I carried John up the stairs to speech class behind the stage at Meadowlawn.  Only dropped him once.  Because I knew of his medical condition I did everything to protect him on the way down.  He was fine,I had bumps and bruises that lasted for weeks.  Rest in peace classmate

John was in my 12th grade English class at Northeast. I thought he was one of the smartest ones in the class.

I knew John/Johnny Wortendyke all through school. He was an amazing example of courage and positivity amidst extraordinary hardship--always ready to give a sunny smile and ask how YOU were doing. Like you, Phil Igney, I am so happy to see that he lived such a full and relatively long life, surrounded by so much family. I hope they too have his intelligence and joy for life. He was a good'un!

John sat behind me in Mrs. Gray's class (6th grade) at 54th Avenue Elementry.  Always had to be very physically careful around him.  A most considerate individual.  Lost track of him at NE after 12th grade. Good to read he had a full and positive life.
