Norma Muse (Faculty)

Norma F. Muse, age 92, of Nancy, departed this life on Sunday, January 4, 2015 in the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center, in Somerset.

Norma was born on February 26, 1922 in the Delmer Community, to the late Ira and Gladys Floyd Muse. She was a graduate of Nancy High School. Norma then attended and graduated from Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville, Tennessee, with a B.A. in English, then received her Masters’ Degree from George Peabody College, in Nashville. She taught in public schools in Kentucky in her first years, then at high school and college level in Tennessee, Georgia and in Florida. She returned to Pulaski County and taught many years at Pulaski County High School, and in 1997, retired from Southwestern High School. Norma was listed as an Outstanding Educator in the Who’s Who in the South and Southwest 1999-2000 edition.

Norma was a member of the Delmer Church of the Nazarene, in the Delmer Community of Nancy. She served her Lord faithfully in her church, teaching the Adults Sunday School Class. She was very active in missionary work and with Youth Groups. In 2010, she dedicated her time to the research and compilation of a historical record of the Delmer Church of the Nazarene, for the church’s 100th Anniversary.

She is survived by two sisters, Eltie (and Lowell) Tarter of Nancy, and Christa Cheek of St. Petersburg, Florida; nineteen nieces and nephews, Sandra (and Wendell) Denney of Somerset, Becky (and Ernest) DeBord of Science Hill, Michael (and Jackie) Muse of Sebring, Florida, Annette (and Bob) Howard of Murietta, California, Mary Alice (and Dan) Hilman, of San Jose, California, Beth (and Dan) Dattilo of Bourbonnais, Illinois, Esther Langford of Murietta, California, Robin Duncan, of Kettering, Ohio, Amos Muse Jr., of Kettering, Ohio, Renee Muse of Kettering, Ohio, Wayne (and T.J.) Muse of Cincinnati, Ohio, Debbie Muse of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jean (and Frank) Reindl of Fayetteville, Ohio, Patty Muse of Fayetteville, Ohio, Terri (and Dan) Johnson of St. Petersburg, Florida, Kenny (and Layne) Cheek of Homosassa, Florida, David (and Nancy) Cheek of Lutz, Florida, and a special nephew and niece, with whom Norma enjoyed a special bond, Joshua Muse of Somerset, and Melissa (and Zach) Bales of Somerset.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers, Irvin Muse, Tinsley Muse, Amos Muse, Dwain Muse, and Gladstone Muse; and a sister, Becky Langford.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home and on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Norma’s funeral service will follow the visitation at the funeral home chapel at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, with Bro. Scott Cooksey officiating. Interment will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
