Denis J. LaPolice, 84, of Stamford passed away peacefully Tuesday February 6, 2018. He was born in Bridgeport, CT on August 3, 1933 to the late George and Esther O'Connor LaPolice.
Denis' family moved to Stamford in 1940 and he grew up on Bradley Place. He graduated from Stamford High School in 1951. After graduation Denis served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. During his early years he enjoyed driving cross country and had visited all 49 states on the continent unfortunately never getting to Hawaii.
In the summer of 1954 Denis was introduced to the late Justine Vozzella LaPolice who would become his wife of 59 years. They were married in 1957 at Sacred Heart Church and would reside in Springdale for 43 years where they raised their three sons. Denis was a carpenter by trade and worked at American Machine and Foundry (AMF). He retired in 1996 from his position as the Supervisor of Building and Grounds for the City of Stamford where he worked for 17 years. He was an avid gardener, coin collector and loved to tinker in his basement workshop building things and making special gifts for his wife and grandchildren. He also enjoyed going to his grand-children's sporting events, school plays and recitals. He rarely missed an opportunity to spend time with his family. He also loved to travel to the family home on Bailey Island, Maine and eat fresh lobster. He will be fondly remembered for his pleasant disposition, positive attitude, will power, favorite quote "never sweat the little things" and for always greeting everyone who crossed his path with his warm smile.
Denis is survived by his loving sons Denis M. LaPolice and his wife Lisa of New Canaan, Christopher J. LaPolice and his partner Mark Mendelson of New York City and Terry LaPolice of Stamford as well as his cherished grandchildren Matthew, Christopher, Lauren, Alexander, and Zachary LaPolice. Also surviving is his brother George "Skip" LaPolice and his wife Doris and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins all who he adored.
In addition to his parents and wife Justine he was predeceased by his two sisters Colette and Eileen LaPolice.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
