Keith E. Canning, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Monday, Nov. 18, at Stamford Hospital. He was 69. He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family. Born June 19, 1933, in Stamford, he was a son of the late Ruby E. Rynard and J. Edward "Scoop" Canning. Mr. Canning was a retired employee of Dorr-Oliver Corp., where he worked for 31 years. He was a member of St. John Episcopal Church of Stamford. He also served as a former president for the Linden House Apartments Association in Stamford. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Oestmann Canning of Stamford; five daughters, Deborah Labagnara of New Haven, Sharon Romano of Leesburg, Va., and Karen Pierce, Laurie Pensiero and Donna Murphy, all of Stamford; a son, H. William Oestmann of Stamford; a brother, William H. Canning of Houston; and 13 grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 19, at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford. A procession will leave at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, from the funeral home for St. John Episcopal Church, 628 Main St., Stamford, for a service at 1 p.m. The Rev. Bartlett Gage will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery in Stamford.
