Robert Stuart Crutchley, 85, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2018. Bob was born in Stamford on October 8, 1932 to the late Henry and Lillian Close Crutchley.
A lifelong Stamford resident, he attended Stamford schools and graduated from Stamford High School Class of 1951. He was a member of the Acapella Choir and was an accomplished pitcher for the Black Knights baseball team.
After high school, he joined the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany, touring Europe with the U.S. Army baseball team. After returning to Stamford, Bob was a driver for area companies including Perkin Elmer and retired as shipping manager for Peabody Engineering after 30 years. Bob loved to fish, listen to big band music, watching the NY Mets and NY Giants and spending time with his family and friends.
His greatest love was driving, which took him up and down the East Coast countless times. A Sunday drive, with his nephews in tow, could easily take them to the Washington Monument or a fishing stream in Lake Placid.
Bob is survived by his brother, Henry "Hank" Crutchley (Barbara) and loving nieces and nephews: Karen Crutchley Ronan, Janis Crutchley, Paul Orsino III, James Crutchley, Carolyn Orsino Donnelly, Robert Orsino and Maribeth Crutchley Risley, as well as 10 great-nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. In addition to his parents, his brother, Richard, and sister, Carole Crutchley Orsino, predeceased Bob.
Friends and family may offer their condolences on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT. A prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. immediately followed by interment at Fairfield Memorial Cemetery, Oaklawn Avenue, Stamford.
