Gloria Engenito Fiorito Durkin, 80, of Youngstown, Ohio, formerly of Stamford, Connecticut passed away on November 2nd at Hospice House of Poland, Ohio after a month long battle with complications from a stroke. Gloria Hope was born on November 5, 1933 in Stamford, CT, a daughter of the late John and Lillian (Spazianti) Engenito.
She graduated from Stamford High School in 1951and married John Fiorito of Cos Cob in 1954. They raised four children: Diane Ontko (Southington CT), Karen Preli (Huntington CT), Robert Fiorito (Stamford) and Lori Fiorito (Taos, New Mexico).
She remarried in 1981. She and Harold Durkin met in Ridgefield CT and they later moved to Stratford where they lived for 15 years. In 2013, they moved to Boardman OH to prepare for retirement
Besides her husband Harold and her four children, Gloria is survived by her brother Michael and sister Jo Ann, two stepdaughters, Michelle Komisak (Lapeer, MI) Laurie Peggs (Commerce Township, MI); 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Gloria had a long work career in retailing and retired from Macy's in 1988. To quote her yearbook, "Red, with the flaming tresses…thinks that her junior year was the happiest…belonged to Girl's Choir in sophomore and junior years…has many interest, bowling, baseball, and swimming…joined the C.Y.O. and Teenettes in her spare time…her future is in retailing." Her passions were dancing, reading, swimming and her pets, especially her Lhasa Apso Ziggy. She was active in water exercise classes in the Stratford CT and Boardman OH YMCA's.
There will be a Memorial Mass for Gloria on Thursday November 13th at the Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church, 651 Stratford Rd., Lordship CT at 12:00 PM.
