Obituary of Roger Herman Hein

Roger Herman Hein, a longtime resident of Stamford, CT, passed away on Monday June 23, 2014. He was born June 8, 1933 in Springdale, CT. He was the son of the late Herman Karl Hein and Flora Eloise Knickerbocker Upon graduation from Stamford High School in 1951, Roger went to work as an apprentice carpenter. In 1953 he enlisted in the Air Force working in the carpenter field. His time in the service was spent in Plattsburgh, NY, Okinawa, and Korea. In 1958 Roger married Wilma Arlene Miller of White Lake, NY. After leaving the Air Force in 1957, he worked for his father in the water pump business. After some time, the business merged with Associated Water Industries in Glenbrook, CT where he became part owner. Fishing with Roland Martin in 1993, Roger won a fully rigged "Ranger Bass Boat" which he enjoyed for many years. Roger retired in 1996. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hiking, camping and especially enjoyed his three granddaughters, Katy Hein, Jill Hein, and Madeleine Buzzeo. Roger was predeceased by his wife Wilma Hein and twin children, Kenneth and Elaine, and is survived by his sister, Doris Travis of Newtown, CT; one son, Douglas K. Hein and his wife Susan of Holden, ME; one daughter, Sharon L. Buzzeo and her husband Joe of Trumbull, CT and 3 grandchildren. Friends may call at the Edward Lawrence funeral home 2119 Boston Post Road Darien, CT on Friday June 27, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00pm. A graveside service and burial will follow on Saturday morning June 28, 2014 at 10:00am at Fairfield Memorial Park, 230 Oaklawn Ave, Stamford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Trinity Episcopal Church, 1734 Huntington Tpke, Trumbull, CT.
