STAMFORD, Conn. - Umberto "Al" Lorenti, a lifelong resident of Stamford, died Wednesday, Sept. 4. He was 81.

Lorenti was born Jan. 1, 1932, in Stamford, to Joseph and Sylvia Sylvestri Lorenti. He was a graduate of Stamford High School, class of 1951 and a graduate of Bullard-Havens Technical School. He served in the U.S Army where he was stationed in Germany.

Lorenti was a ballroom dancer and instructor for Bill DeFamato and danced in the Harvest Moon Ball at Madison Square Garden. He was a carpenter by trade for over 60 years and was a member of the Carpenters Local #210, a member of the K of C, Council 41, 3rd Degree. He was a founding member of St. Leo's Parish Bowling League, a member of St. Leo's Parish since 1961 and was a Sunday usher at the 8 a.m. Mass and served as a volunteer at their annual fair for the past 33 years and captain for many years for the "Christmas in April " program.

Lorenti is survived by his wife, Marie Lombardo Lorenti of Stamford; children, Marc A. Lorenti (Mildred), Stacey A. Sass (John) all of Stamford; four grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Wolf of Stamford; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, John and Joseph Lorenti; and sisters, Yolanda Janicki and Sylvia Rodriguez.

Calling hours are Sunday, Sept. 8 from 12 to 4 p.m. at The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT 06902. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home Monday, Sept. 9 at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Leo's Parish, 24 Roxbury Road Stamford. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace RC Cemetery, Stamford.
