Antoinette "Toni" Smeriglio, 84, a lifelong Stamford resident passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Stamford, on October 11,1933, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Josephine Ottavino Picciallo.
Antoinette was a member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church and a proud and dedicated member of the Rosary Society. She was a retired employee of Stamford Hospital having worked as a Billing Representative. Toni was her family's caregiver, having cared for her mother, brother, and grandchildren. What she treasured most was the time spent with her family. Antoinette was known for her devout faith, persistence and independent strong will.
Antoinette is survived by her children Linda Uva of Stamford and Michael Smeriglio and his wife Cathy of Stamford, her grandchildren Patrick "P.J." Uva and his wife Maria, Natalie Betancourt and her husband Steve, Nina Smeriglio and great granddaughter Julianna Uva. She is also survived by her brothers Michael Picciallo and his wife Maria of Stamford and Frank Picciallo of Stamford. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her parents, Antoinette was predeceased by her husband Joseph Smeriglio, in 1985, her brother Sam Picciallo and son in law Pat Uva Jr.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave Stamford on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 9:50 a.m for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart R.C. Church 37 Schuyler Ave. Stamford. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace R.C. Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road Stamford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, March 5, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
