OBITUARY
Svea Nystrom Barrish

Svea Nystrom Barrish, a long-time resident of the Stamford, Norwalk and Redding areas in Connecticut, died Thursday the 7th of July 2011 at Danbury Hospital. She was predeceased in death by her son, Larry D. Barrish and her husband, Richard Barrish. She was born August 26, 1932, in Colebrook New York, daughter of the late Anna and Edwin Nystrom. Svea received her high school diploma from Stamford High School in 1951. She continued her education at local vocational training centers and also self educated herself in business management. Svea lived part of her early years in Finland and survived the Second World War and returned to the US in her teenagehood in a sickly state. A strong, determined fighter, she negated medical estimations that she wouldn’t survive some of her early medical challenges and lived long to be 78 years. In a career arena, her talents were recognized in various professional fields. Among positions she occupied, she worked as a dance instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studios and as a fundraiser for various charities and coordinating various events for charity causes. She also worked as a bank assistant in Stamford, where she worked until she decided to open her own business. Svea loved being her own boss, working with her late husband, Richard Barrish in their Real Estate and the Mail Order businesses from home until they decided to retire. In addition to ballroom dance, in her young adulthood, she also loved good food and socializing, enjoyed movies, music and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room.Her son, John R. Barrish, residing in Danbury, Connecticut who brought great joy to her later years and final days in life, survives her. Svea’s family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. and the service will start at 12:00 p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral home at 2900 Summer street, Stamford on Wednesday July 13, 2011 with the Reverend Joan Breckenridge officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Fairfield Memorial Park.
