HANULIK Mr. John M. Hanulik, of Westport, died Monday, March 14, 2005, at Norwalk Hospital. Mr. Hanulik was a native of Stamford where he attended the public schools. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from Boston University and his Masters in Music and his 6th year degree from Columbia University. Prior to retiring, Mr. Hanulik taught in the Westport Public Schools for 37 years. He taught music at all levels, the Elementary, Middle and High School where he conducted the Staples Symphony Orchestra as well as the Staples Chamber group which he founded. He started many new courses such as Piano Keyboard, Electronic Music and several levels of Music Theory. He also conducted one of the Norwalk Symphony Youth Orchestras for five years and later in his career he conducted one of the Bridgeport Symphony Youth Orchestras for five years. After retiring, Mr. Hanulik became music director of the Saint Luke Adult Choir for eleven and a half years. More recently he has been serving on the Westport Arts Advisory Council. Survivors include his wife Marie, also a retired teacher for the Westport School System. A son, John and his wife, Charlotte, and their four children, Kelcy, Evan, Zachary and Dylan, of Stamford, a daughter, Mary and her husband Craig, and their two daughters, Kaitlin and Emily of Marshfield, Mass., a son, Christopher and his wife, Maria, and their two children, Nicholas and Isabella of Studio City, Calif., and another son, Thomas and his wife, Monica, and their infant son, James, of Denver, Colo. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial (directly) 10 a.m. Friday at Saint Luke Church 49 N. Turkey Hill Rd., Westport. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery, Greens Farms. The family will receive friends in the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Rd. E., Westport, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mr. Hanulik may be made to the Whittingham Cancer Center, 34 Stevens Street, Norwalk, CT 06856.
