WHISPERING PINES, N.C. -- Chester W. Parowski, 71, of Whispering Pines, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, of heart failure, in North Carolina. He was the husband of Audry (Lovell) Smiley. He was also the husband of Joan C. Fraser, who died in 1975.

He was born in Stamford, Conn., in 1933, son of the late Walter and Mary (Szenszul) Parowski. He attended school at Holy Name of Jesus Parish, and graduated from Stamford High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Pace University.

In 1958, Mr. Parowski married Joan C. Fraser. They raised two children.

During his lifetime, Mr. Parowski worked in the areas of accounting and corporate taxation, for several companies. The majority of his career was spent working with Western Union Corp., living in Allendale, N.J., and Suffern, N.Y. He retired in 1996 after 24 years of service to Western Union.

While working, he was an enthusiastic member of the Tax Executives Institute, achieving the office of New Jersey Chapter President in 1979.

He was also an active member of local Roman Catholic parishes of the towns in which he lived and their affiliated Knights of Columbus organizations.

In 1994, Mr. Parowski married Audry (Lovell) Smiley of Littleton.

After retirement, they moved to North Carolina to enjoy friends, mild winters and play golf. Both he and his wife, Audry, were involved with several charities in the Whispering Pines area.

Besides his wife, Audry, he is survived by his daughters and a son-in-law, Paula and John Schrank of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Martha Parowski of Reston, Va.; his grandchildren, Thomas and Ian, his wife's children, Lyn, Robert, Lisa and Leslie, their husbands, and children, Kelly and Robert.

He is also survived by an aunt, Ann Wisneiski of Stamford, Conn.
