STREATOR - Thomas J. "Tom" Canale Jr., 58, of 804 Columbus Road, Streator, died peacefully at his home early Sunday morning, May 21.Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church in Streator. The Rev. Tony Lee will officiate. Music will be provided by the St. Mary's Resurrection Choir under the direction of Paula Trainor-Rosenbaum.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Solon, Baker & Telford Funeral Home in Streator.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tom Aukland, Kenny Yuhas, Danny Keesee, Joe Marconi, Dominic Salvati and Gene Handzo. Honorary pallbearers will be Kayla Malnar, Chris Canale, Marissa Malnar and Katelyn Canale. Third-Degree members of the Knights of Columbus will also serve as honorary pallbearers.
Thomas was born on Oct. 4, 1947, to Thomas and Bernadette (Bishop) Canale Sr. He married Cheryl Cannella on Nov. 25, 1967, at Immaculate Conception Church. She survives in Streator.
He is also survived by his three children, Tommy Canale III of Streator, Tim (Laura) Canale of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jenny (Jeff) Malnar of Streator. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kayla Malnar, Chris Canale, Marissa Malnar and Katelyn Canale. He is survived by his mother, Bernadette Canale of Streator; his sister, Rosemary Martin of Streator; and a niece, Melissa Daugherity.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Canale Sr.; and his sister, Barbara (Canale) Moore.
Tom attended Streator grade schools and St. Bede High School. He graduated from Streator High School, Class of 1966. He also attended Rockford School of Business.
He owned and operated Canale Amusements for 15 years. He moved to Las Vegas in 1984 and became the president of United Gaming Corporation and later returned to Streator in 1991. He founded Apple Vending in Las Vegas with his son, Tim, in 1993.
Tom was a Third-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and also the Streator Country Club. He also formerly belonged to the Streator Elks Club and the Streator Moose. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
Tom was involved with Streator Youth Football and a 25-year veteran of IHSA officials and a certified IHSA clinician.
Tom, better known as Nonnie, was a devoted husband and father and he exemplified family. He was an outgoing, fun-loving individual, with an outstanding sense of humor. Nonnie touched many lives with his generosity and compassion for others.
