STREATOR — George E. "Kooch" Novotney, 62, of Streator, passed away at 7:35 p.m. Saturday, September 24, at Carle Hospital in Urbana.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 3:45 p.m. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Streator. Full military rites will be accorded by members of Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492. Pallbearers will be nephews, James Kelly, Dan Pouk, James Novotney, James Cogdal and Tim Novotney and his brother-in-law, James Kelly. Honorary pallbearers will be Bo Matsko, Joe Tomasello and John Schultz.
Born Nov. 12, 1948, he was the son of George and Mary Ann (Svetz) Novotney.
He is survived by sisters, Barbara Pouk, Mary Jane (James) Kelly and Sue Novotney and a brother, Gerald Novotney, all of Streator; nephews and nieces, Tim Novotney, Carol Mann, Cathy Basina, James Novotney, Christine Novotney, Dan Pouk, James Kelly and Jennifer Cogdal; and eight great-nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister in infancy, Elizabeth Ann Novotney.
Born and raised in Streator, he attended St. Stephen's Grade School and graduated from Streator High School.
He served in the United States Air Force. He previously worked at Owens Illinois Glass Company.
He was a former member of St. Stephen's Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Parish. He was also a member of Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and AMVETS.
