DUBLIN, Ohio — Patricia Loretta (Eilts) Kessen, 68, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Mayfair Village Nursing Home in Dublin, Ohio.
She was born Aug. 25, 1948, in Streator, to John E. and Verna (Gneckow) Eilts. She graduated from Streator High School in 1966 and attended LPN school at St. Mary’s Hospital in La Salle, in 1967 after which she began a long and successful career as a nurse. In 1986, she obtained her registered nursing degree from Lima Technical College.
During her career she worked at several nursing homes and hospitals including Briarwood Manor, Mercer Health Hospital, The Gables at Green Pastures, St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator, in addition to many doctor’s offices and home health care.
She was formerly married to William "Bill" Kessen who died Feb. 2, 2005. Together they co-owned Wayne Trail Dragway in Middlespoint, Ohio, in the late 70s to early 80s and enjoyed many years drag racing with friends.
Pat is survived by her two daughters, Lori (Gregg) Slawinski, of Marysville, Ohio, and Jodi (Will) O’Steen, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; three sisters, Judye (Robert) Humenick, of Hudson, Ill., Joan (Patrick) Bost, of Ottawa, and Joyce (Myles) VanDuzer, of The Villages, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and several friends at the Richwood Greene Apartments.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, George and Blanche Eilts, of Wenona, and Marie Baima, of Oglesby; and her former in-laws, Urban and Corinne Kessen, of Celina, Ohio.
Pat will be remembered as an amazing caretaker, both in her professional and personal lives. She was born to take care of people and did so in a most selfless manner.
A private memorial service will be in Illinois at a later date with family. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Celina, Ohio. Arrangements are being handled by Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel, 621 W. Fifth St., Marysville, OH.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to all of the staff at Mayfair Village Nursing Home in Dublin, Ohio, for their extreme attentiveness and loving care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
