Hope everyone has a great weekend! I am going to scrapbook with Robin Minton (Mayhue) and some other girls from England this weekend.

OOHH you did good Carolyn. You must of had some good stuff. Before I had kids I went every Saturday. I don't get to go as much now, but I love to find a good deal. Some of my most favorite things in my house are from garage sales. It is such a high to find something really good for really cheap.
Have fun scrapbooking. I'll have to say, that is something I don't do. That is too overwhelming. I'll just admire your cute scrapbooks.

Have a good weekend everyone.
Beth

Beth, that 150 bucks might be enough gas for you to come to Stuttgart, then have another sale to get home.
Gas prices are outrageous....

Hope all have a great weekend.

Man, if we could find that car, it would be awesome. Aaron, are you going to name that kid Jackson? No one would forget his/her name, Jackson Jackson! Maybe we can get a replica of that old car. If we could find the real Boat , we could send it to Dave in Iraq. It would be cool to see Osama hogtied to the front of that thing!!!!

I remember the duck hunting at temple island. peppermint snops and budweiser tucked in our waders, and your dog named Sophie.

AJ. Good luck with your first child. I have 3 great kids, 2 little Jasons and 1 little Lori and we all have a great time. I will say that boys are easier because when my little girl gets to the dating age I will probably be the biggest asshole.

Tricia, Im glad you were able to navigate the boat safely that night. There is no telling where the hell I was that night.

Hey Beth, I don't mind the question at all. First I'm sure you will remember I've always been pretty conservative and pro military. I do think things are getting better here and the surge is part of that. Also the Iraqi's themselves are getting tired of all of the violence and war and lots of them have started fighting Al Queda for us. I hope the gains we have made last. Al Quaeda is alive and well here and I guess if we don't fight them here we will somewhere else. They attacked us, and we have to destroy them. Do I think we ought to be here? I hate to think that over 4,000 people died and for us not to have something to show for it. As for me I would give anything to be home with my family tomorrow. It is a lot harder to be away from home for a year than anybody can imagine unless you've had to do it. I've done it before and even I had forgotten how hard it was since I was a lot younger then. Anyhow, that's just how I see it but it doesn't make me right. An NO the media just doesn't get it right. I hope that helps

Beth, I forgot to answer the will we ever be able to leave here. I think we will be able to start drawing down over the next couple of years but I think we will have at least some people here for the foreseeable future. Maybe like we keep people in Korea and Germany.

Hey Saranie and Holt, I remember standing around in Bayou Meto with the Pepper Mint Schnaps like it was yesterday freezing our buns off. Saranie I even rember Sophie. Maybe we could get together for a duck hunt in January if I make it home in Decembe like i'm hoping for. Don't think it will be in time for Christmas but maybe just after. I just heard something explode outside though and right now I gotta go clean out my brithces.

28/06/08 07:06 AM #194

Let's get together & go huntin in Dec-Jan...the media sucks, (Except for all the hot babes on the FOX News Network)!!!!

Lauren Hartz (Clark)

David- I am so thankful for all you are doing! That really hit home when you said you heard somehing explode out side! PLEASE BE CAREFUL! Stan Cunningham from the class of 88 is over there somewhere. He has been chatting on their message board.

Teresa...Where are you?!?!?!?!?!?

28/06/08 10:09 AM #197

Beth Carter (Dawson)

Thank you David for your thoughts. I'm just glad the Iraqi people aren't turning on you guys. I'm glad they see you as helping them. What was the blast? Is everyone ok?
I am so glad that you are on this forum and have reminded me that there is still a war going on and people like you are away from their family sacrificing everything for us. Its almost as if I have forgotten about all of that b/c its been going on so long. Thanks for making me aware of it again and I will pray you through it.

Aaron
I just traded in my Suburban for something smaller b/c of the gas prices.....now I feel like we are packed in our car like a can of sardines when we travel and I can't even tell that much differnce in the price. I'm going to have to have a lot of garage sales to afford this gas. Next Saturday we are driving to Florida....wonder how much that's going to cost?

Teresa is in Bentonville at a softball tournament...she promised she would get on here next week when she is back. Traci Weaver is supposed to be on here too. Those two together will really crack you up.

Carolyn
I saw that picture and laughed so hard. What is up with the two barrettes in my hair. What purpose were they serving...doesn't look like their pulling any hair back on my Dorothy Hammill. You look so cute with your long pretty hair....I looked like a boy.

Hey Lauren and Beth, it was probably just one of those marine helicopters firing a missile out at the perimeter. You just don't hear that very often at our base becasue it's kind of remote. It scared the crap out of me though. Anyhow, thanks for keeping in touch.

Saranie, you and Holt and I should get to together for that hung. I don't know if I will make it home before Christmas so we may have to do it in January. Either way i'm ready for a little cool weather after being in this oven. You couldn't believe how incredibly hot it is here. The best way I know how to explain it is when you open your oven and the heat takes your breath away, well that's what it has been like here the last couple of days. See you guys later. I leave tomorrow night on another 3 or 4 day mission so after tomorrow I'll be scarce for a few days. You guys stay out of trouble this weekend. I can't come bail you out right now boys.

Beth I saw where you were talking about how high gas has gotten. That happened after I left so I can't imagine how bad that's going to be. I was talking to my wife tonight and she misses her Yukon. She has one of those little Lexus SUV's and it get's 25 miles per gallon. I think that's a lot better with gas prices the way they are.

Little like Vegas in July, huh Dave? The heat and all. Not those Baghdad casinos. Probably no comparison there with Las Vegas

Dave,
Good to see you keeping your head down. If your making sure the convoy security is tight you've got my thanks. That is the single hardest job in the whole Sandbox in my view. Ambushes you can return fire or get a good air strike in, but IEDs are nightmares.

My sympathies to your family on the year seperation. I know it gives good mission continuity but the Army's insistance on 12+ month deployments was always harsh to me.

Hopefully after your homecoming you won't be heading back out anytime soon.

Tricia Orlicek (Brown)

David, I want to say that I support our troops over seas and in this war. No, I don't think any of us can say that we want to see our soldiers have to stay but I know the mission must be completed. The Iraqi people have seen hate for so long I don't think they know how to react to anyone wanting good for them. I am sure some of them are suspicious of our motives. I think they need to see that there are people in this world that actually care about them and the future of their children. They need to be loved on. I cannot imagine growing up under a regime like the one they have endured. I think we as Americans should think about that and try to see the task at hand. But what do I know, I am not a politician am I? Sorry to get on my soapbox. I'm not trying to start a political debate. It's just when I see those beautiful little faces on TV my heart goes out to them and I fear that if we just pull out what will happen to them. I really feel for those mothers over there as well. I pray that the next generation will want a better government for their country and their people whatever that may be. So go fight those evil people on their behalf knowing that you are not just making a difference for our country but for theirs as well. God bless you and keep you David. You will be in my prayers. See you when you get back.
