The past 49 years have been such good ones. I graduated from SJSU and taught school for 2 yrs. before I took a summer job at Lockheed Martin. It was such a positive atmosphere and teaching jobs were so "iffy" that I stayed and retired last May after 36 yrs. What a fabulous ride it was. Herk worked at Pepsi-Cola and then started his own business. He convinced me to move to Hollister in 1989 and build a home on a 5 acre parcel with 300 walnut trees. He longed for the good-old-days of Sunnyvale filled with such beauty - not to mention that Lee and Bonnie were moving here first. It was such a fabulous decision and we enjoyed every minute of our life together here. Everyone referred to it as the Evans' B&B.
In Aug. 2008, I had just submitted my retirement papers and was so excited to finally be home to enjoy the years ahead with Herk. On Aug.3 he felt out of breath. On Sept. 6 he passed away from leukemia. It was simply devastating and, in fact, this is the first time that I've been able to write on this website. Herk and I so loved growing up in Sunnyvale and all of the great memories. Thank you to so many for your kind, encouraging messages and calls.
My family and I are moving forward with such gratitude. I've been busy traveling and spending time with family and friends. I've helped my mother build a small successful business over the past 8 years and am having lots of fun with this. I'm loving the freedom, flexibility and ability to be creative after working in the aerospace industry. I look forward to the future.
