Does anyone remember the cheer Mrs. Yanes taught us for football games and how she lead us through it at the end of class?

Or how about when someone walked into the room late, she would say, "Hablando del rey Roma!" (speaking of the king of Rome), and we were taught to follow with,"y el burro que se asoma! (and the ass that just walked in!)"

How nice to have lived at a time that wasn't too politically correct, and people weren't overly sensitive.

Okay, so maybe I was a little harsh on Coach Lentz. Thanks Jane.

This really is a great site - thanks!! I didn't think I'd be very interested, but thought I'd check it out anyway. I've been sitting in front of my computer for a LONG time now! My daughter, Rachel, keeps walking by wondering if I'm "still" looking at old pictures. It's fun to see how everyone's changed and I love seeing the beautiful kids and families we've all created.

I remember part of it Anne Marie ....something about "Arriba! Abajo! Plant high school .... es guanajo!" Do you remember her Blue Moon earrings?

Once sitting in a tennis shop up here in the suburbs of Philadelphia, I asked a man stringing my racquets if he knew of a good place to get a salad. He directed me to a place and as I was almost out the door he shouted, "But you'll never find a salad here like the ones I used to get at CDBs down in Tampa!". I turned around and replied, "I know that."

I love Senora Yanes! She made us only speak in spanish once we entered the classroom and she assume I understood much more than I did. I think it took me the whole yr to realize, as I slipped into homeroom at the last second, (being at the end of the alphabet paid off) she would just say to me "por favor" and I thought that meant literally, "Close the door", since that is what she always wanted done at that point. Now that my daughters are struggling with spanish in HS and their teachers that are not nearly as creative as Senora Yanes, I do "feel their pain".

Carol---CDB's is a very fond memory of mine, too. I remember that besides great pizzas and salads piled high with rolls of cold cuts, they were very slack about carding for beer!

So, who was that man?

Is CDB a pizza joint outside USF as I recall?

02/11/09 01:32 PM #47

Dean Skinner

Yes CDB's is still open and great as always. With great pizzas and salads. Located east of USF.

When I attended Florida Southern in Lakeland, FL 1979-81, there was a CDB's there too, but USF's is the original. My older sisters used to work at the USF one back while we were at CHS.

Thanks for CDB's info. Yes I remembered I ate at CDB's back in the early 80s while at the same time having too much fun attending USF. I remembered the pizzas and sandwiches were big and very yum yum. We sure don't have axx kicking pizzas here in Sacramento California.

And, we must not forget 42nd Street Station, if my memory serves me right...of course none of us were old enough to get in...except those of Ya'll from Tennessee :)

I graduated at 17 which meant I was at Proud Lion at 15 buying booze with no issue! Maybe that is why we own so many bars...poetic justice!Because of those days I think it makes me a better mom to my kids at 17 and 21 year old! Sat there at McKitrick Elem on Lutz Lake Fern for 2 years while walking the campus thinking about the MANY parties we attended out that way which has since been developed! Kinda sad our old party turf has been developed
I can remember coming out of Proud Lion Pub and finding my Honda Civic lifted and turned around in its parking spot so I could not back it out...Thanks David May and company!

Thanks Dean. I talked to that Roby but he's the wrong dude. However he said he knows the other Roby. That was the end of it.

Anyway, I can narrow it down to : Roby Pruitt, but he doesn't have his profile updated.

Troy, I use to LOVE 42nd street station. Since I was tall and must have looked older, I never had a problem getting through the door. (originally from California, nuff said)

I left Tampa when I was 20yo and only came back to visit. A group of us would go to Crawdaddy's after the Courtney Campbell Causeway. Tom (?), past football player use to be the bouncer there.

Does anyone on this forum Facebook?

02/19/09 12:23 PM #57

I am on Facebook Cindi

GREAT!,

I never thought I would be interested in revisiting the past but the older you get, you want to be sure that folks you know or knew are safe and thriving.

Reading all the profiles, what a talented and dynamic group of people the class of 79 produced and such beautiful families.

I am gonna friend you, if you feel inclined accept it and if anyone else does facebook, please don't be shy.

Best,
Cindi

Cindi I will tag you as friend once I log on to facebook. I also already met a few Chamberlain classmates in facebook. I enjoy making friends from HS years.

Ok Cindi. I am your friend.

Okay, so AnnMarie and Jane got the cheers and the welcome from Senora Yates, but I still can't get the birthday song from Senora Barnes out of my head... Today is a birthday I wonder for who? We know it's for someone who's right in this room, so look all around you for somebody who...... Is smiling and happy, my goodness it's you! As she would run madly directly at you... Then break into the "normal" happy birthday song.. Okay, and who else remembers her opening the door with her toes and touching her head with her foot? Senora Barnes, thanks for the memories! Of course, I think that the teacher that made the biggest impact on me had to be Mr. Price. Marching practice seemed to go on forever, but my niece is doing so much more practicing and work with the band now in her high school. It almost seems like we had it easy. I like Judy's idea of bring our band instruments, but I haven't touched my saxophone in at least 20 years now. But, I do still have it, for some reason that escapes me at the moment. I hope things will work out and I can make it down for the reunion. But, if not I want to see pictures! LOL

I still sing that song from Mrs. Barnes' class to my boys on their birthdays! They think it's so strange that noone else knows the song. I hear her in my head when I sing it too. That's the scary part!

The other part is...

Happy Birthday (so & so)
From all of us to you
Happy Birthday (so & so)
Something something (can't remember this line)
We congratulate you
And pray that good luck follows too
Happy Birthday so & so
May all of your good dreams come true.

It's nice to know someone else out there remembers it, too.

Ann Marie, Ms. Barnes and Ms. Yanes would do it together (at least in my class that's how it was). I remember a part of it but I'll have to write phonetically. Obviously High School Spanish (or living in South Florida) has not lead to bilingualism with me.

The cheer went something like...
Bomba chee-a, chee-a, chee-a
Bomba chee-a, chee-a, cha
Cham-ber-lain High School ven-ser-a!
