Mr. Thorpe's 5th Grade Class Pic Posted Tuesday, April 28, 2009 08:39 PM Darlene Grounds, Darlene Sims, Margie Hodges, David Reed, Becky Pena, ??, Bill Arnold, John Lennert, Patti Baggs, Miriam Crowell, John Anderson (?), Donna Mathews, Ken Perry, Jacque Van Nortwick, Tim Garrett, Diane Collier (Durr), Susan Dickinson, Bob Delgado, Margo Huff, Mickey Farley, Epifanio Huizar, ??, Ricki Ann Collier, Marty Shelton (?), Mr. Thorpe, Ann Moore, John Ary, George Sanchez. There's two names I'm not really sure about--John Anderson or was it Lee Anderson, or maybe it was neither, and Marty Shelton. Then there are two guys I remember being in the class, but I simply don't remember their names. Bekki, the used-to-be-quiet one |

RE: Mr. Thorpe's 5th Grade Class Pic Posted Tuesday, May 5, 2009 11:44 AM Bekki, Seems like you got the user forum figured out. I'm not quite as brave yet. Yvonne emailed me and said she didn't see her photo on the 5th grade class pic. She said she was probably "still in the locker". Do you remember the day that a bunch of students in the back were throwing wads of paper at Mr. Thorpe while his back was turned and he was writing on the board. Well, when he turned around he was visibly upset and told the class the person responsible should "own up". Nobody did. Yvonne was sitting in the back. I don't know why Mr. Thorpe picked on her but he put her in one of those full stand up lockers we had in the classrooms back then. He forgot she was in there and when he was going to excuse us for lunch somebody asked him if he was going to leave Yvonne in the locker or let her go to lunch. His face got red (he forgot he put her there). When they opened the locker to let her out she couldn't see, she was blinking, she'd been standing in that locker in the dark for hours......... |

RE: Mr. Thorpe's 5th Grade Class Pic Posted Tuesday, May 5, 2009 10:39 PM Great story, but sorry I don't remember the incident. However, I do remember many boys, and possibly even a girl or two, gettin' a good swat or more with Mr. Thorpe's paddle--the one with holes drilled through it! I remember several of us would go up to the door to listen for the swat and for the yelp of the swatee. Do any of you guys/gals who were at the receiving end of the paddle care to share how that has affected your psychological being? Bekki, the used-to-be-quiet one |
