Nancy Garrett Garrett

In Dec of '70 I had a beautiful baby girl, Heidi. She has always been the light of my life. She just had her first child at the age of 38, (she's a lot braver than I am). Calvin Austin and I married in Oct of '71 a week before he was deployed to the Phillippine Islands. He was in the Air Force and was in the PI for 15 months, Heidi and I were there for 5 of them. Then he was deployed to Italy afor 18 months and Heidi and I were there for a year. It was great, I really enjoyed Italy. After he got out of the service, we returned to Tehachapi. He worked at various jobs, finally becoming a plumber. I worked at several banks in town. After 24 years we divorced and he passed away in 2000. Heidi tells people, "Mom turned 44, got a divorce, quit her job at the bank, became a truck driver, basically losing her mind". Little did she know I finally found my mind!! That was in 1995. In Sept of '96 I moved to Tulsa , Ok but really wasn't happy there so in March of '97 I was moving back to Bakersfield, when I was offered the job of running the Western Truck School in Tucson, Az. So I detoured to Tucson and really enjoyed the desert. It was while I was in Tulsa, that Tim Garrett contacted me after finding out I was divorced. We began having long phone conversations, finally in Sept of '97 he convinced me to visit him at his farm in Ava, Mo. As they say, 'the rest is history'. I moved back to Ava with him the end of Sept (He actually cleaned out his livestock trailer to move me, am I lucky or what.) We were married in Dec. of '97 in Las Vegas while attending the National Finals Rodeo. We began driving a truck together in '98 and he's been doing it full time ever since, I have been full time the past four years, prior to that I was part-time while being a step-mom to Tim and Becky (Hamons) son, Kody and daughter, Sayde. They lived with us from '99 until they were out of school. Tim and I have a great life and are working to get back to raising cattle and live the "good" life on the farm. All the kids are waiting for us to retire to the farm so they can, as they put it "send the kids to Papa and GrandNan's for the summer".

Update: after having breast cancer twice, then a double mastectomy 11/22 I have retired full time!
Tim is still driving but only to Kingman, Az then back to Springfield. He's thinking very seriously about staying home and farming cattle full time.
