My name is Randy Reiswig. I remember riding the school bus with Donna Fay King. She normally sat with her brother, Donnie, while I sat with my sister Wendy. We often sat close together as we were the same age. I remember that when I talked to Donna there would be a glimmer in her eyes, she would slightly blush, have a large smile, and have a very contagious laugh that would light up the school bus.
I sometimes wondered if she had a crush on me, but quickly realized that she responded to everybody that way.....but in retrospect,,,,boy was I wrong.
I left Tehachapi and moved to Arvin following 8th grade graduation. I started working on KCFD seasonal wildland fire crews at age 17. In the fall of 1972 I was taken off the fire line after working 31 days straight so that I could enroll at CAL POLY SLO. I got off work on a Saturday morning in order to pack my clothes and leave to SLO on Sunday. However, I recieved a phone call from a group of my rowdy Arvin friends asking if I wanted to go to the Kern County Fair Saturday night. I said yes!
Our group was walking into the carnival area when I ran into Donna King, who was also with a group of her firends. We saw each other, she ran up to me, and gave me a big hug. I had not seen her in over 6 years! We separated from our groups and rode on almost every carnival ride. I had a wonderful time with Donna. We passed the photo hut and decided to have our pictures taken. She asked if she could kiss me....and I said yes! It was all caught on the camera.
The carnival rides closed at 11:00 pm and I walked Donna to the eastern gate where her friends were waiting for her. She walked app. 50 feet, turned around and noticedthat I was still watching her. She spun around, ran back to me,...and gave me one last hug and a kiss. That was the last time I saw her. I could not contact her at CAL POLY as her phone number fell out of my pocket during one of the rides....and then my car was destroyed by a 100 year San Luis Obispo flood.
Donna was still just as cute as she was in grade school. I just wish thatI knew how she died at such a young age.....
