75th Birthday Bash Recap

75th Birthday Bash Recap!

Well, this year we’re hitting another collective milestone: 75 years!  Three-quarters of a century!  Our “Diamond Jubilee”!  Heck, we’re not “old”, we’re “carefully aged” like a fine wine, right?  So-o-o-o it was time to celebrate with a 75th Birthday Bash!

The first event on Friday morning was an 18-Hole Mixed Golf Scramble at the scenic and challenging Maumee Bay State Park Golf Course. It was a very warm, but beautiful morning for golf and the ladies edged out the men by a stroke or two.

Friday night we had a private room reserved at Quimby’s Food & Spirits, in Lambertville, where more than 50 of us gathered to toast each other and renew old friendships. We sang "Happy Birthday" to ourselves and shared some laughs as well as a delicious birthday cake. The only slight downside was not one person in attendence took a single photo. On the plus side, though, it shows that everybody was "in the moment" and vastly preferred making memories over taking pictures; definitely not a bad thing.

On Saturday evening, over 40 of us gathered at Highland Meadows Golf Club for the final "official" event, the annual "All-High School Reunion". For over 20 years the venue for this event was Centennial Terrace.  A big advantage of the new venue is that the event is no longer “weather contingent”, however, it was a beautiful evening. All the tables were set up inside the clubhouse, but you could wander out onto the terrace and enjoy the beautiful view of the golf course. A "Mr. Entertainer" DJ kept the talking to a minimum, played all the great tunes from "our era" and some folks ventured onto the dance floor to "cut a rug". (Spoiler: There really wasn't a rug.)  Many of our "First Class Gold" Classmates mixed & mingled with each other as well as people from Start '65 (Mike Passino, Rick Dunlap and Linda Stacy to name a few). DeVilbiss High School was well represented with classes from as early as 1958 to its final class of 1991. The DeVilbiss Class of '66 was also clebrating its collective 75th birthday and there were a number of renewed connections between Start & DeVilbiss people who had attended various grade schools together. Being in a new venue there were a few "hiccups", but overall people were very pleased and a good time was had by all.
