 Longtime resident of Torrance, CA, passed away on July 31, 2009, in Victoria, Canada while doing what she loved, taking an ocean cruise with her family. Kallie was born on December 29, 1948, a snowy day in Los Angeles, CA. Kallie had worked for the last 22 years at Riviera Elementary School in the Torrance Unified School District. As the school secretary, she loved the many interactions of the day, whether with a parent or a student, and always making each child feel they were just as important as an adult. Her time away from school was spent with her loving family, whom she was always there for when they needed her. Kallie and her husband, Ron, have enjoyed cruising the high seas for many years, as well as, travelling to Las Vegas to play her favorite slot machines at the Riviera Casino. When she was not adventuring out of the South Bay you would find her watching and cheering her two sons as they coached basketball or educating the fans at a volleyball game her brother was coaching. Kallie has touched so many people young and old wherever she went, she will be truly missed and always loved. Kallie is survived by her husband, Ron Varnell of Torrance, CA; son, Bob and Linda Varnell of Lomita, CA; son, Tim Varnell of Torrance, CA; brother, Steve Stratos of Torrance, CA; brother, Stan and Flora Stratos of Pasadena, CA; and 2 grandchildren, Lucas and Layla. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Anne Stratos. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Rice Mortuary in Torrance on Friday, August 7, 2009, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. The Trisagion Service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church in Redondo Beach on Saturday, August 8, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes. |
