Adams, Dannie: Steve Gilman being led down the hall by Mr. Maguire on Valentine’s Day, wearing a pair of boxer shorts over his pants. They had little red hearts on them and Mr. Maguire wanted Dean Bell to see them. (see Steve Gilman)
Alquist, Deborah (Garrett): parties at Tanque Verde Falls; working on the yearbook; trying to get to the biology building from Spanish in the ten minute break; Mrs. Johnson (speech teacher) & speech team out of town tournaments; Red Cross Christmas parties for Yaqui children; Service Club parties at Bryna Vertlieb’s house
Ammon, Vicki (Kauth): a rubber donut to cushion a broken tailbone; mice that wouldn’t reproduce in biology class (two females, it turned out!); The Torch; Deer Week (I had to ask him, but I finally got a date with Dave Baker); wearing jeans during Rodeo Week; dancing to the long version of “Light My Fire”; kneeling to prove my skirt really wasn’t too short; Raimundo (Miss Ott’s parrot); sneaking off-campus for lunch (and getting caught) with Helen Kessler the week before graduation; driving a jeep; sharing everything with Jane McDowell
Ash, Bruce: CHS swim team kicking butt at city and state meets!; urinating in Frank Johnson’s loafers and getting caught by a janitor at the YMCA; throwing a wet swimsuit at Scott Carnes in Mrs. Segade’s Spanish class and getting thrown out of class; food fights with Bruce Williams in cafeteria (got caught again); Who says I was a goody “two shoes?”
Barry, John: getting out of jail!; Graduation!
Bartz, Michael: PE class with Coach Griste; girls!;
Berry, Chris: attending football games and going to dances afterwards; gymnastics practice and traveling out of town to compete in meets; working in industrial arts classes
Bike, Benita: Shakespeare class; German class; skipping pep rallies; harassing cheerleaders; being involved in dance
Black, Mary: those delectable apple turnovers from the cafeteria; Mrs. Rickels’ kindness; Mrs. Livieratos’ dignity and fine intellect; Mr. Morales’ high expectations of his students; Miss Hale nixing my use of the slogan “Black Power” in an election campaign; and girls being granted the right to wear long pants to school in our senior year
Blankenship, Don: Just enjoying life with a lot of friends; the 1970 basketball team; catching some rays at Sabino Canyon and Reddington Pass; my 1967 Camaro
Bogen, Mike: I remember being associated with a group of winners!
Borror, Carol (Bell): Tubing down the Gila River, what a way to go!; crunch bowl touch football games on Sunday at the park; walking the Rodeo parade twice - once with the Tri-Hi-Y group, and once with the junior class float; Would I now make it through the route even once?; Most of all, I remember the wonderful and intense friendships that made an impression on my life even to this day.
Briggs, Laura (Bartkowski): graduation caps tossed to the wind; Mr. Wendell Johnson allowing himself to be drenched in the safety shower for the Red Cross drive

Brown, Debra: all my friends; serving on the Student Council
Budinger, Vernon: gymnastics workouts; discussing SDS in the back lunch patio; dissecting frogs in biology; avoiding hall monitors after getting to school late
Burkholder, Page: Senior Capers and being censored for showing slides of a graveyard next to slides of JFK during “Abraham, Martin and John”; the dress code forbidding “granny dresses” for being too long; Mrs. Livieratos’ English class
Butterbrodt, Andrew: I can’t remember what I had for dinner last night…. 20 years ago?
Carroll, Charles: I guess my favorite memory was graduation, I wasn’t sure I would make it, especially after spending two summers trying to get through algebra and geometry. I also remember being thrown out of a football game by Mr. Bell for hitting Tim Sharp in the head with a coke cup. There were a lot of great times and friends, and I feel lucky to see many of these people every week.
Carson, Marsha (Gardner): Passing notes in the halls; going to football games; the great “Arts in Action” class
Carson, Terry: camping trips to Reddington Pass with Bob Harbour, Dan Hicks, Dave Reiblich, Andy Butterbrodt, Dave Reese, Scott Clark, Bobby Koogler, and Alex Cobble; early morning freshman basketball practice; track practices’ many laps and stadiums; beating John Partin for the freshman decathlon; learning to pole vault; dances; rodeo parade where four of us operated the float; moving Coach Schmeider’s car above the varsity locker room; Mrs. Johnson’s speech class; and meeting the love of my life, Diana Naugle

Chesher, Jackie (Mashburn): Deer Week - what a great tradition for us to look forward to; pep rallies and the great school spirit we had; Mr. Fogarty’s science class where he actually encouraged us to spend time outside to study “cloud formations”, always good for at least 25 minutes out of class!
Christopherson, Vicky, (Begue): exciting adventures with the caving and climbing club; the nutty class of commercial art with Miss Beath; my carpool companions and their zany outlook on life
Clayton, Tim: ditching school and going to Sabino Canyon
Coady, Kathleen (Holt): Looking back, all of high school was enjoyable. It was always fun to go on our outings with the choir.
Cooper, Crismon: football games; birthday kidnappings for breakfast and going out to eat in pajamas
Cornell, Julie (Berrie): my friendships with Linda Dunlap, Jim Franks, Scott Olsen, Kathleen Sharkey and Barry Smith
Cox, Nate: great fun being a member of the cave club; JV and varsity wrestling
Davis, Peggy: yearbook work parties; senior year basketball games, Mr. Black’s Latin American history class
Deo, Lyle: great records of the football teams 1967-68; the antics of the outwitted Dean of Boys; the sense of humor and sarcasm of lovable coach John Griste; the absolute frustration suffered by Coach Rittenhouse; the outdoor excursions of the fishing club, “Los Pescadores”; mini-skirts; the always entertaining and unpredictable escapades in Mr. Henderson’s Spanish class

Downing, Everett: football games; the few good friends and many acquaintances; giving the teachers a hard time in class; ditching class to go to Sabino Canyon and Mt. Lemmon
Dusenberry, Ann: when during my first stage production at CHS in the title role of Mr. Big, it was remarked by one of the English teachers: “That young man playing Mr. Big could really be heard well throughout the auditorium!"; cheering for our award winning basketball team in 1970; football, fun but chilly; being proud of our work as pom pom girls
Eldred, Bob: division championship, men’s gymnastics, 1970 - I took first in high bar
Elkins, Nancy: being a cheerleader and the fun of creating routines; kidnapping new members of the pep squad at 5:00 in the morning; going to Bob’s Big Boy after football games to “be seen”; good looking guys in our class; feeling important and eating on the senior patio; Deer Week
Evans, Ann (Ezell): moving out and successfully supporting myself in my senior year while pulling straight A’s
Fisher, Dawn (Barnard): dances; parties; football games; and especially the junior/senior prom!
Fisher, Mike: There are so many times that were nice. I had a small circle of friends and I spent time away from school being with them. My interests were: cars, hot rods, and motorcycles.
Flanagan, Marty: as a sophomore, playing footsie under the table with the girls in biology class while dissecting the frog
Fordyce, Mary (Andersen): playing field hockey year-round on those hot Arizona afternoons
Fraesdorf, Lori: girls’ tennis team; football and basketball games; proms; boondockers; fun, friends and great times
Francis, John R: baseball playoffs in Douglas, our junior year; Toys for Tots drive; the football game against KTKT; TP-ing Paul Reed’s house and having his mother drive up in the middle of it
Franks, Jim: the pains of adolescence; worrying about, walking through, and timing my schedule before school began freshman year; always getting a green PE fitness patch (the lowest) because I couldn’t do any pull-ups; compiling KTKT’s yearly Top 99 and hearing it played on New Year’s Day 1968, 1969, and 1970; Clearasil! and how happy we guys were when they came out with “white vanishing” formula; being in Mrs. Lackey’s first Shakespeare class and doing our Senior Capers bit; trying to run Aretha Franklin for student body president with Scott Olsen
Fulton, Jane (Bloch): watching my sweet, docile mother tell off the old battle-ax of a female dean of girls
Gale, William: “Great White Horse” rock band; friends - male and female; art class with Miss Beath; student activities including being an emcee of Senior Capers
Gehrels, Neil: a few excellent teachers in science, music and English; food fights in the cafeteria; wild parties!; A least favorite memory is the night our band, the “Great White Horse,” played at Coach Segurson’s house - everything went wrong.
Gilman, Steven: Standing at my locker during lunch several days before Senior Capers, I was trying on my extra large boxer shorts (for the show) over my slacks. I was suddenly and quickly escorted to the Dean’s office - still wearing the boxers with “big read hearts” on them, only to be sent home for the remainder of the day!
Gonzalez, L Christina: songleading during my senior year; Rodeo week; football games; sociology and PE classes; friends; signing yearbooks
Grant, John: Ms Ijams’ American Problems class
Griffith, Susan (Thomas): cheering at football and basketball games; slumber parties on Friday nights; Senior Capers; advisory board meetings
Hamersley, Gayle (Mowen): making some terrific friends; dances, proms, and football games; by far the most outstanding memory is meeting Bruce in Mr. Rothrock’s biology class!
Harbour, Robert: Deer week; Torch sports staff
Harkins, Debra (Dupray): nice teachers like Mr. Jaeger, and crabby ones like Mr. Bancroft; study hall, except when one was caught talking and had to stand in the corner; the drama department and Senior Capers; football games and after-game dances; the variety of people and large classes that helped me blend into everyday life
Harralson, Greg: playing softball and flag football in PE
Hasenheyer, Jerry: It was a time in history when things changed so fast yet slowly enough that we could be what we wanted to be in life. We started a lot of things that changed the system for those that followed, and gathered a lot of ideas we would take with us. It was a great time to be in school and make friends for life.
Hauschildt, Sue (Johnson): freshman English with Miss Howell, sitting in the back with Amy Janesch and Michele McGuire having fun; walking home from football or basketball games and dances; "I wonder if I’ll be able to let my kids do that?"
Haynes, Gordon: Watching the baseball team win the state championship in 1967; watching in amazement when Glenn Rothrock stood on top of his desk in frustration to get the class’ attention in biology; the exciting atmosphere of assemblies prior to athletic events; getting into CHS basketball senior year and experiencing Mark Rens’ drive to the game in Douglas at over 100mph much of the way
Hicks, Dan: Why did Bob McAllister throw me a bean ball in JV baseball?
Hilts, Susan (Brown): senior breakfast party in Mrs. Livieratos’ English class; dancing with Benita Bike; playing a wino-crazed French madwoman in drama; getting the goat of my bigoted, over-zealous American history teacher; dancing at the prom in competition with Ms. Robinson and the coach
Inskeep, Debra (Grace): the many friends I met at Village Inn Pizza after the games
Jenkins, Shan: English class with Kathy Cimmiyotti and Susan Greenwalt; gymnastics; football games
Jeter, Randall: I played clarinet in the CHS band and have a lot of fond memories of half-time performances at the football games, Band Day at the UA, and the Veteran’s Day and Rodeo Day parades
Johnson, Dwayne (Steve): school spirit (which now seems lacking); Harry Phillips singing “Alice’s Restaurant” at Senior Capers; seeing Keith Nichols ('69) drag race down Pima Street after school while I walked out of the main doors with Drivers' Ed teacher Mr. Phillips!
Johnson, Kem: senior patio; the swimming team
Jones, Debbie (Miranda): Frank taking Debbie Inskeep to the after-prom after taking me to the prom; my friendship with Danni Pierce
Kaller, Sharon (Hindle): separating fruit flies until we nearly fainted from the ether; the dress code; the chemical Mr. Kuhn put on the bumper of his car, turning the hands red of those who moved it; sex ed classes; the horrible gym uniforms; the too small parking lot
Kautenburger, Karen (Mason): the school spirit we had; football and basketball games; dances
Keeling, Monty: the baccalaureate prayer; attending Tucson Toros games with insane people the nights before next day tests; acting up in stage productions and getting credit for it
Kelley, Susan (Wortman): skipping out of school at lunchtime, then arriving back late and having to go to Ms. Hale’s office; I still have to see her as my son goes to Santa Rita High School where she works.
King, Brian M: During Rodeo week my junior year, I rode with two other students towing our Rodeo float to Santa Rita Park at 1 am. Alone, I slept on the float overnight before helping to pull it in the parade. Now, I’m afraid to even go to that park alone!

Klanderman, David: Mr. Kuhn, Mr. Black, Mrs. Peters, and Wanda in World History; graduation!
Koontz, Kathy: Friday night football games; some of the crazy people I met (students and teachers); graduation
Ledesma, Jennifer (Acuña): listening to Mrs. Livieratos’ lectures on Shakespeare with her microphone - her raspy voice always made everything more interesting; cheering crazily at football and basketball games - especially when we had the #1 basketball team in our senior year; acting silly with all the girls at lunch - dreaming of and fantasizing about all the cute guys, especially…he knows!
Lloyd, Kathy: getting caught in the prop room with Gary Putney (we were looking for ballet shoes - honest!); fighting off Bill Schrader’s attempts of injecting me with male hormones in biology
Logan, Scott: the fun in Mr. Haynes’ and Mr. Whitley’s classes, and all the bull and horsing around they put up with
Maddox, Kim: Ken McGlamery in tennis whites; Alex Cobble in swim trunks
Mallis, Harlen: night football games; lots of free time and very little responsibility; hanging out between classes and talking with friends
Marcon, Sharon (Wells): singing in the advanced choir in the tenor (male) section
Mashburn, John: the JV football team picking up Mr. Schmieder’s car and setting it in front of the girl’s gym; hiding Bob Harbour’s Plymouth while he was in basketball practice; school spirit, pride, and closeness we all had whether we won or lost
McDowell, Jane (Bacarella): Chinese fire drills; Vicki Ammon’s jeep; cafeteria food fights
McGuire, Michele (Harbour): songleading during basketball and football games; state basketball championships in Phoenix; Millicent Duerr’s wonderful choreography skills (“Raindrops”); lunches on senior patio; first “off campus” prom in 1970; first coke machine on campus; Senior Capers, especially the boys as cheerleaders and songleaders; Band Day at UA and ASU; wearing pants to school for the first time; drivers’ training with Buddy Doolen; graduation!

McNally, Marcy: CHS’s nickname as the “Disneyland High School”; “foxy” Livieratos; tennis courts needing repair; Tali Sayner and Susie Griffith being really funny

Miranda, Frank: Toys for Tots drive with the Lettermen’s Club; Kumquat Bowl football game with KTKT DJ’s; Village Inn Pizza after basketball games; food fight with Dave Reiblich which resulted in our going to the dean
Morrissey, Ann (Cox): talking with friends before school on the front steps of CHS; lunch on the senior patio
Mowen, Bruce: the 42 yard touchdown made in the game against Rincon; acquiring a 1955 Olds to drive during senior year; meeting Gail
Myrvold, Doug: “Maxie Mouse”; scenics; Mr. Black; crunch bowl; killer rugby; superiors; miniskirts; summer vacations
Naugle, Diana (Carson): sophomore English with Mrs. Garitano; junior history with Mr. Duffen; senior math with Mrs. Howell; kidnap breakfasts; dances; proms; Speedway; photography; Deer Week; Ruthie, Jeff, Mike, Mark, Mickie, Shari, Steve, Andy and especially Roger; the graduation party at my house and Art hugging our toilet; graduation
Nelson, Judy (Wingert): Mrs. Ijams always got Nancy Elkins and me mixed up. When yearbook signing came, she addressed “Nancy” in mine and “Judy” in Nancy’s. When we pointed it out to her, she just changed our names around and left what she had written!

Oxtoby, Wayne: playing on the tennis team with a four year perfect meet record (100-0); sneaking off-campus for lunch
Pabst, Margie (Spellmeyer): meeting so many new friends; being run down by a student in a wheel chair going down “the ramp”; my sister Chris calling me a “spastic gymnastic”
Perrera, Andrea (Ramsey): football, basketball and baseball games; graduation
Peterson, Judy (Wesanen): cheering our basketball team on to a division title; cool Friday evenings in the stands with friends, cheering on the football team; sunny day lunches on the senior patio; great musicals produced by the drama department
Pfersdorf, Jim: In the first week of baseball practice in senior year, my best friend Dave Parmenter hit me in the mouth with a pitch during an intersquad game. I lost one tooth and had three capped!
Radtke, Rosetta: cafeteria lights; Mrs. Kellis’ “fighting 6th”; the morning after RFK’s assassination and Tony Cohn’s reaction; Ms. Curtis’ creative writing class, reading Salinger’s “I Spent Sunday in a Cage”; Mrs. Pierce, Latin; Mr. Hoyt, algebra and geometry; Mr. Sulman, German
Reiblich, Dave: playing basketball and baseball and being on the varsity baseball team as a sophomore; watching Alex Cobble biting into a condom at the lunch table - did he get mad!!; being 16-0 in basketball our senior year when Coach Kintner decided I wasn’t needed on the team anymore (???) - they proceeded to lose in the state playoffs!
Reopelle, Edna (Teri Girard): being young and carefree; dances; yearbook signing; occasionally winning a football game; Mr. Edgington, the choir director
Roberts, Ruth: the caravan to Salpointe High with the rather creative sign “Hail Mary, full of grace, Salpointe is in 2nd place,” which had to be taken down; the music department and the friends I made there; being a song leader
Robertson, Andy: double dating; going to sports activities; running track; hanging out and cruising with friends
Ryan, Steve: football games and pizza, cruising Speedway; doing the variety show; Led Zeppelin music; Nancy Elkins; Bryan Vertlieb; Jack Grant & Company
Sayner, Tali (Strauss): Betsy Stevick’s slumber party; TP-ing boys’ homes and getting caught by Steve Martin when our car wouldn’t start
Scafede, Ronald: going to a great school; games, dances, friends; the bands: “Crazy White Horse” and “The Committee”; going to state in basketball
Serna, Diane: pep rallies on Friday before football games
Shayka, Mary Lou (Bauer): football games, Mr. Anderson’s understanding; Mrs. Welch’s co-op class
Shetler, Sharie (LeTarte): meeting Diana Naugle outside the boys’ gym and hearing about her dates with Terry Carson
Stensrud, Jeff: great support that people provided over the years; grateful that I never got into the drug scene in spite of suspicions some may have had; my band playing at CHS functions; the diversity, fine staff, and incredible students
Sterling, Carol (Culpepper): diplomacy of student body government in response to charges of racial discrimination; being the class that changed the dress code; the start of the miniskirt fad
Stevenson, Jim: getting out of school on my Trumpeteer pass and cruising the foothills in a borrowed ’66 convertible
Thomas, Steven: all the friends who accepted me and helped me feel at home; school dances; playing football and wrestling; Bob’s Big Boy, Village Inn Pizza, and Orange Julius; junior/senior prom; Senior Capers; Advisory Board meetings; Miss Wade, English; Mr. Gordon, math; meeting and dating Susie
Thompson, Ron: As a freshman, I tried out for the cross country team with Malcolm Vick. After the first day, we both were so tired that we thought about another sport but showed up at the next day’s practice. Four years later, we were just as tired and still talking about participating in a different sport.
Toglia, Chris (Peterson): football games; dances
Tully, Linda: football and basketball games; hall monitors; those funny PE suits; I also remember when Beth Hamlink was going through the cafeteria, arms full of books, and her skirt fell around her knees! It was the lunch hour and we had just finished PE class. She must’ve have forgotten to button up!
Upham, Gary: Band Day at UA; two exceptional teachers, Mr. Webb (band) and Mr. Piziali (shop)
Vanover, Donna: school spirit at sporting events and general friendly attitude
Varney, Kathy (Martin): I remember practicing the two girl can-can for Senior Capers at Barbara Merritt’s house and having a lot of laughs. My favorite skit was the guys who painted their chests into faces. Who were those mystery men?
Varon, Robert: first day of freshman year; Coach Segurson; Mr. Gordon, math; Dean Bell; dances; senior prom; graduation; returning 18 years later and seeing the dilapidated condition of CHS
Vernick, Ellen (Schartz): high school being a fun, carefree time
Vertlieb, Bryna (Zehngut): How wonderful our class was! We had terrific school spirit, great people, and wonderful organizations and teachers. My favorite memories are of Senior Capers (weren’t we all talented!) and the fact that we had 7 merit finalists. I bet no class since then has been as smart.
Vick, Malcolm: eating lunch on the patio with Jake Bender, Mike Bogen, Steve Higdon, and Brian King; suffering through cross country with Roy Larsen, Ron Thompson and Mike Gauna, while Coach Bell rode his bike; practicing freshman basketball at 5am and not being good enough to play in the games; driving to school with Charlie Carroll even though we lived only two blocks away; running around Tucson in Tim Brooks’ old pick-up
Villa, Irma: being a member of the softball team and winning some championships; organizing and participating in the first group of mat maids ever at CHS; attending the first Tucson school to allow girls to wear pants!; belonging to the best CHS class ever!
Warner, Cathy: PE and after school sports; sophomore English with Mrs. Peters; Spanish with Mr. Henderson
Weissberger, Josh: Travis Edmonson concert in assembly; goofing off in study hall; Mr. Welch’s amateur radio station that never quite went on the air; Vietnam protest projects for senior English; seeing portions of “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” in my ’61 Caddy.
Wickhorst, Karen (Payne): the day someone let the goat in our hallways; the Trumpeteer always winning high honors; CHS’s thinking more highly of academics than sports - though it excelled in both; graduation night thunderstorm
