Edna Kathleen “Kathy” Koontz

Kathy was born on October 5, 1952 in Middletown Ohio. She died at home on Sunday, March 29th, 2020, after a long illness. Her parents Ralph and Ruth Koontz moved the family to Tucson in 1955 for health reasons. Kathy graduated from Catalina High School in 1970. In October 1970 she gained employment at Tucson Medical Center as a nurse's aide. After about a year she was fortunate to be accepted into the operating room as a trainee to become a surgical technician. Kathy loved the OR and made many life long friends of the staff and physicians. Later Kathy accepted jobs in the OR, and the hospital's purchasing department to procure equipment and supplies. She had to leave the hospital after 33 years of service due to her health. Besides her family, career, and animals, Kathy loved any sports. She played golf, volleyball, tennis, swimming, softball and scuba diving. Long weekends were made for camping on Mount Lemmon or the beach in Mexico. Kathy was a character, fun to be around, and will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Ralph Koontz. She is survived by her sister Annie Laurie Koontz. In Lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity. Due to COVID - 19 the services will be only a handful of close friends. A gathering to celebrate Kathy's life will be announced at a later date.
