Steve Loren Fuston
September 8, 1952 - January 24, 2000 (51)
(The following is an entry written by Steve’s daughter):
As most of you have heard, Steve Fuston passed away on Monday, January 24, 2000. We are all saddened by this unexpected event and we are all having a hard time accepting this huge loss to our family.
Steve was a very simple and caring man. He never wanted anyone to shower him with tangible things. Some time ago, he made his wife and children very aware of his wishes if anything ever happened to him. He did not want to be kept alive by any machines or medications and he did not want a large funeral service. He told us to have him cremated and to have his remains scattered over the mountains in Tucson, AZ. He did not want his family and friends to be hurt, financially or emotionally, with his passing.
For those of you who do not know, Steve had been dealing with severe pain for the past 10 years in his neck. He went to many doctors over the years with no answer for his pain. He tried many experimental medications and procedure with no relief. He was scheduled to go in for another experimental surgery this month. This surgery would use a laser to zap the nerves in his neck that were causing his pain.. There was no guarantee that this would work, but my father was willing to try anything to relieve his pain. Unfortunately, last month he came down with two types of pneumonia that placed him in the hospital until last Monday. We will never know if that procedure would have fixed his problem.
Steve was a man who was cared for deeply, no only by his family, but by his friends, doctors and associates. We know that his passing will affect your life as well as ours. HIs wife and daughters ask you, instead of sending flowers, to please make a donation in his name to the National Pain Foundation. Steve has always helped others in need, even when he was not able to be helped. We believe that he would appreciate this gesture that would, hopefully, help other people who are in a similar condition as he was.
