In Loving Memory of Douglas Howard Lynch
NOVEMBER 2, 1942 – SEPTEMBER 17, 2020
Douglas Howard Lynch passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 17, 2020 in Tyler, Texas.
Doug was born alongside his twin sister, Lynda, on November 2, 1942, in Tyler, Texas.
This came as a pleasant surprise to the happy parents as they were not expecting twins. Doug’s journey with Christ began at Tyler’s Glenwood Methodist Church where he was an active member of the Methodist Youth Fellowship. His service to others began as a cub scout, continued onto boy scouts and after his graduation from Robert E. Lee High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve his country aboard the USS Bennington in 1964.
Ten years later on May 17, Doug married Jackie and they began their life’s journey. Along this journey Doug stepped into the role of father to Jackie’s two daughters, Belinda and Misty. Careers took them from Texas to Oklahoma and New Mexico before settling back in Oklahoma with the birth of his daughter, Laurie in 1980. Doug's career progression relocated the family back to Texas where they found a home and became active members at First Baptist Church of Spring Forest. Doug led the choir, taught Sunday school and served as the treasurer, until his retirement from Spring ISD in 2009. Doug and Jackie were excited to retire in Tyler, which reunited him with his sister in the same town. They found the perfect house with a view on a small lake and were led to become members of Woodland Hills Baptist Church. Doug’s gift of service continued at this church as the head usher, supervisor of the Lord’s Supper and adult Sunday School Teacher. The congregation was blessed with his ability to share his God-given gift of singing during worship. His family also enjoyed this gift on many occasions. Other gifts he shared with family were his love of fishing, winning at horseshoes and playing other games. While catching fish brought a smile to his face, teaching his grandchildren to fish, and seeing their smiles, was what brought him the most joy.
Family members often raced at gatherings to have Doug on their team for horseshoes and washers. He often shot the moon and put in the last “hidden” puzzle piece. After retirement, his love for working in the yard bloomed, as he enjoyed his riding lawn mower. He also found time to enjoy travels with his brother, sister, and family friends. Although retired, he still enjoyed working part time at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home, serving as treasurer of the Hidden Hill Lake POA, and enjoying his morning coffee with his love, Jackie, sitting on the back porch watching birds and squirrels. He could often be found reading and studying the Bible or practicing a new hymn. His service to his family, church, community and country will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Aubrey Edward and Annie Laurie Lynch.
Left to cherish many wonderful memories are his wife of 46 years, Jackie Lynch of Tyler, Texas; children Belinda Tompkins and husband Ty of Chandler, Tx, Misty Yarotsky and husband Steve of Friendswood, Tx, Laurie Pierrel and husband Nicholas of Spring, Tx; 8 grandchildren Jaclyn, Josh, Paige, Wayne, Jacobi, Tricia, Marshall, and Madeline; great-grandchildren Emory, Karson and Rylee; Brother Richard Lynch and wife Barbara of Greenville, SC, twin sister Lynda Eichler of Tyler, Tx; and several nieces and nephews A visitation for Doug will be held Friday, September 25, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Lloyd James Funeral Home. Beadle Moore, Jr. (Brother of Liz Moore Dewar)
Oct 5, 1941 - Jan 3rd, 2020
- Birth Date: Oct 5, 1941
- Death Date: Jan 3, 2020
- Funeral Date: Jan 8, 2020, 10:00 am
- Location: Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church
Biography: Dolph Beadle Moore, Jr., known for his infectious laugh, warmth, and intelligence died on January 3, 2020 in Little Rock after a long illness.
Beadle was born in Mobile, Alabama on October 5, 1941, the son of Marta Wolff Moore and Dolph Beadle Moore, an executive with Humble Oil. He spent his childhood in Opelousas, Louisiana, and moved to Tyler, Texas as a teenager. Beadle’s love of Louisiana Cajun food started early in public school in Opelousas where, in kindergarten and first grade, he was served and drank coffee au lait for his school breakfast. Opelousas also introduced him to the joys of the Palace Café and Daidee’s roast chicken which he often later made at home. In later years he loved visiting New Orleans with Blanche and friends and spending time in the Quarter with his aunt and uncle.
In Tyler he boxed his high school sophomore and junior years and received the Outstanding Boxing Award in 1957. He wryly noted that like Muhammad Ali, he never lost a match. In his senior year he was chosen captain of the Robert E. Lee High School football team. At a time when football linemen were nimble and not behemoths, Beadle played guard on a scrappy team that prided itself on its heart despite few victories.
Beadle attended college for two years at the University of Texas in Austin, where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science from East Texas State University in Commerce. As a graduate student, he had his first experience in teaching political science, a job he loved.
From 1966 to 1969 he was an instructor at Arkansas A & M, now the University of Arkansas at Monticello. While there, he announced the radio play-by-play for the football team and was known as the Voice of the Weevils. Hoping to impress his future wife, Blanche Montgomery of Helena, he took her to a game on their first date, they sat in the press box, and he asked her to be his spotter. Nevertheless, she was not deterred, and they married in 1969.
Beadle left to do additional graduate work at the University of Arizona in Tucson and Blanche, having graduated from the College of Pharmacy of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, practiced pharmacy. They returned in 1973 and Beadle took a position on the faculty of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the Political Science Department where he taught until 1990 enjoying the friendship of exceptional colleagues, Cal Ledbetter, Joel Anderson, Robert Johnston and Charles Chastain. Beadle also served in administrative positions in Advancement and Governmental Relations. After leaving UALR , Beadle worked at Arkansas-Louisiana Gas Company as assistant to the chairman until he retired in 1999.
Beadle was a lifelong progressive “yellow dog” Democrat, although that may have been the only time Beadle ever acknowledged an affinity to the canine species. He was active in both state and national politics. He was president of the Young Democrats at East Texas State and served on the board of the Institute of Politics in Little Rock. In addition he was appointed to the Governor’s Study Commission on Tax Reform and Commission on Experiential Education.
During these years Blanche was also working in governmental relations for Arkansas Children’s Hospital after a ten year career as a pharmacist. After their respective retirements Beadle and Blanche continued to enjoy travel, dancing, golf and spending time with friends and family as they had during all of their fifty years of happy marriage. Beadle was also an enthusiastic duck and pheasant hunter. When Beadle was unable to play golf in later years, he continued to drive the cart and coach Blanche on her game.
Beadle was active in community affairs and did volunteer work at St. Vincent’s Infirmary and as a guide at the Clinton library and he served on the boards of the American Red Cross, the Museum of Science and History, Friends of KUAR/KLRE and World Services for the Blind.
Beadle had a healthy sense of humor and reveled in life and friendships, and Blanche was always his enthusiastic partner in every activity. It was hard to think of Beadle without also thinking of Blanche. They shared a wide circle of long-time, close friends of every political stripe, friends who rarely saw Beadle without a smile and a contagious zest for life. Rarely have two people complemented each other so completely.
Beadle was predeceased by his parents, his sister-in-law, June Gayle Haraway and his brother-in-law, Paul Norwood. In addition to his wife, Blanche, he is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Dewar (Bobby) of New Braunfels, Texas, his brother-in-law, Vance Montgomery (Terry) of Helena, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to World Services for the Blind, 2811 Fair Park, Little Rock, AR, 72204, (501) 664-7100.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 8, at 10:00 a.m. at Pulaski Heights Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Susan Miller Steffee - Wife of John Steffee
11-22-1946 - 01-30-2019
Susan Fairbanks Miller Steffee died peacefully in her sleep on the morning of January 30, 2019. Susan was born in Dallas, Texas to Jack and Mary Miller on November 22, 1946.
Her family moved to Tyler in 1950 where she was raised and lived until 2004. She graduated from Robert E Lee high school in 1964 where she was a Rebelette Twirl Major. She then went on to attend North Texas University in Denton, Texas where on a blind date she met John Glenn Steffee.
They were married on August 12, 1966 at Marvin United Methodist Church in Tyler and were married for 52 wonderful years. Their marriage was a testament to their love and Christian faith, any time spent in their presence left no doubt that John and Susan were meant to be together.
Susan was an educator for over 30 years, many as a 2nd grade teacher at Rice Elementary, and her last 12 years as the Principal of Owens Elementary. Owens thrived with Susan's leadership and was rated "Clearly Outstanding" more than any school in the district. Susan loved her job, the kids whose lives she touched and was especially endeared to her staff.
She was admired and well-respected by students and parents alike, but the teachers at Owens were her very favorite part of being a Principal. She was constantly thinking of ways to support and spoil them. She and John were long time members of the West Erwin Church of Christ in Tyler, active in all aspects of Sunday School and service. She retired in 2002 and in 2004 she moved to Cypress, Texas to be closer to her daughters, Kimberly and Michelle.
In Cypress she was an active member of her churches, West Houston Church of Christ, where she helped set up and run a Mothers Day Out program and eventually Spring Creek Church of Christ. In recent years she became a regular volunteer at Cy-Fair Helping Hands. While all of these things kept her busy and involved, it was her granddaughters, Eliza and Taylor, that became the love of her life. They were the center of everything she did from supporting them in sports and events, to planning special trips with them. But her favorite pastime was simply spending hours with them and being a part of their lives. Susan was known by a lot of names; wife, mother, teacher, Principal, friend, but without a doubt her favorite title was “Grandmommy”.
All of these words in black and white can tell you about Susan Steffee, but anyone who knew her will affirm that words will never do justice to the life she lived.
She was a loving and supportive wife, a selfless mother and an adoring grandmother. Her friends will tell you, there was no one like her, a constant giver of her resources and time, you rarely heard the word, no, from Susan She loved to travel with John and friends, but really loved to be home with her family. Whether it was cooking, or playing games, or shopping, or watching football - she loved to be with people and they loved to be with her. She could make you laugh like no other, and we will all hold on to the hundreds of memories she was such a central part of creating. We know she is happy to see her parents and Jackie again, and this sustains us through our grief.
She is survived by her husband, John Glenn Steffee, her brother Ricky Miller, her sister-in-law Debbie Miller, her daughters Kimberly Hellums and Michelle Bellomy, her son-in-law, Charles Bellomy and her granddaughters Taylor Hellums and Eliza Bellomy. She is preceded in death by her parents Jack and Mary Miller and her brother, Jackie Miller.
Visitation will be at the Klein Funeral home in Tomball, Texas from 2:00-4:00 on Sunday, February 3. Services will be held at Spring Creek Church of Christ on Monday, February 4 at 1:00 PM, with a reception following the graveside service.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Merwin Heller of Tyler; son, Jeffrey Scott Heller of Dallas; his in-laws, Gerry and “B” Franklin of Baytown and brother in-law, Charles Avery of Round Rock. Growing up in Tyler with his fun- loving family and friends, the Hoot Owl Creek Gang and Razzers, Jeff had many exciting adventures. The Heller kids, Jeff, Mutt, Poo, and Beth were known throughout Tyler. Jeff’s interest in sports participation began early, competing in swimming at age eight at Camp Longhorn under the influence of legendary Tex Robertson. His sports abilities seemed unlimited. In addition to winning state finals in swimming, he also lettered in football and basketball. Success in sports led Jeff to a four year swimming scholarship to the University of Texas in Austin under the leadership of Hank Chapman. He was conference champion in several events and made All American in 1958 and 1959. At UT he was active in the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, leading to lifelong friendships. In 1960, Jeff joined the United States Marine Corps where he trained in the naval base at Pensacola Florida earning his wings and was commissioned in 1963. Although assigned to Cherry Point, NC he served in Japan and Okinawa before beginning his tour of duty in Vietnam in 1964 and 1965. In addition to his carrier-based flying missions, he helped found the Officers Club in Da Nang, Vietnam and was promoted to first lieutenant and captain during this period. After five years as a Marine, Jeff returned to UT and earned a BBA before joining EDS and Ross Perot in Dallas, Texas in 1968. Jeff helped to develop new EDS offices in Pennsylvania, California, New York, Massachusetts, Iowa, Indiana, and Minnesota. After his work in New York with the financial brokerage business, Jeff took over leadership of EDS’ National Medicare and Medicaid sections in Dallas. In 1984, General Motors partnered with EDS to combine their data processing systems. Jeff was commissioned to smooth the transition. By 1991, EDS began doing business in Asia as Japan-American, which became Jeff’s responsibility. Jeff served as Chairman of this independent company. After serving as Chairman of EDS Australia, Jeff became President and Chief Operating Officer of EDS in 1996, when he became Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. In 2002, Jeff retired but was called back and remained in that leadership role until “retiring” again in 2008. The relationships that were formed during his time at EDS were as close as family. During his retirement, Jeff officed at MHT Partners, a business investment company where he enjoyed close relationships with young business professionals. During and after his active business years, Jeff served as a board member for a spectrum of companies including Mutual of Omaha, Temple Inland, Trammel Crow, Unigraphics, Westcott Communications, and Hitachi Data Systems. Beyond his business leadership, he also served as a Trustee of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Southwest Medical Foundation, and served his church on both the Pastor Parish Committee and the Finance Committee. Very active as a University of Texas Alumni, Jeff was awarded as a Distinguished Graduate of the University of Texas. He served on the UT President’s Research Council, the Littlefield Society, the McComb School of Business Board, and the Chancellors Council. He was Chair of both the Longhorn Foundation and the UT Engineering Foundation. He was active in the Cotton Bowl Association. Jeff was elected to the UT Hall of Honor and served as Chairman, and was also President of the “T” Association. While serving in the Marines, Jeff married Carol Franklin in 1963, who he met at The University of Texas. Together they had two children, Jeffrey Scott Heller and Debbie Ann Heller. Carol and Jeff made Dallas their home for many years. They enjoyed traveling and attending sporting and cultural events together. Jeff always found time in his life to actively pursue golf, fishing, hunting and skiing. Some of this activity took him to very interesting parts of the world. He was active in a large number of Dallas organizations, University of Texas, and professional organizations, almost always in a leadership role. He was an active member of Dallas Country Club, Dallas Petroleum Club, Northwood Club, University of Texas Golf Club, and Beaver Creek Club. He enjoyed time spent on the golf course with friends especially with the Oilees. With all of Jeff’s accomplishments, he’s mostly remembered for his love for his friends and family. At the top of the list was his love for his wife, Carol. They were a team and enjoyed doing many things together. They had wonderful trips to various parts of the world. They treasured time spent with the family. Scott and Debbie enjoyed a special relationship with their father including playing sports, traveling, and attending Texas and Cowboy games. November 1940 - November 11, 2018 |
|
Nolan Edward Manziel, 77, of Tyler passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018. He was born on November 18, 1940 in Baton Rouge, LA to Bobby Joseph Manziel and Dorothy Nolan Manziel. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Deborah Lynn Manziel, and nephew Billy Daryl Pyron II.
Nolan graduated from Tyler High School and attended LSU prior to graduating from TCU with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration. He remained a devoted LSU sports fan, a bond that was rivaled only by his loyalty for the Dallas Cowboys, which never wavered whether they won or lost.
A successful businessman on many fronts, Nolan was co-owner of Manziel Interests, working with his siblings on a daily basis. He was active in the fields of oil and gas explorations and operations, real estate development, ranching and investments. He was named as one of the Top Ten Oil & Gas Entrepreneurs in East Texas by the Dallas Hard Hatters. Nolan served over 15 years on the Board of Directors for the 1st National Bank of Quitman where he also served as a Director/Auditor. He has been a member of the Tyler Chamber of Commerce, Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association, National Rifle Association, The Cedars of Lebanon and Hollytree Country Club.
Nolan had a heart for supporting his community, sponsoring numerous events hosted by the American Petroleum Club, The Cedars of Lebanon, East Texas Oil Men's Benefit Association and Sharon Shriners, as well as many others. As a devoted Christian, Nolan served his faith quietly. He was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, serving on the expansion finance committee, and he was instrumental in forming its Ushers Association, in which he served for 17 years.
An avid outdoorsman, Nolan was a founding stock member of the Tyler Gun Club, and was named Sportsman of the Year by Ducks Unlimited in 1984. Nolan leaves behind many lifelong friends with whom he enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, watching football and sharing his youthful fondness for fast cars and fast boats. Nolan had several coveted cars in his teens, and he was especially proud of having won the highly competitive Teenage Driving Rodeo in high school. Nolan had been the proud owner of various classic cars over the years from a 1923 Model T to a 1938 Ford Coupe that his son repurchased 30 years after he previously owned it. Nolan then utilized his unique skills of repurposing Ford motors for boating use to refit the Ford motor for his Chris Craft, doubling his boat's horsepower, making it the fastest boat on the lake at that time.
Most of all, Nolan adored his family, with whom he loved spending time. He was known by the younger members as DeDe, and he relished the various longstanding family gatherings throughout the year. His kind spirit and humor and enthusiasm will be greatly missed.

Larry Kent Ummel
10-20-1943 -- 3-31-2018
Funeral services for Larry Kent Ummel, 74, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in the College Heights Baptist Church with Dr. David Ummel officiating and Dr. Bryan Haynes assisting.
Larry Kent Ummel was born October 29, 1943 in Tyler, Texas to R. J. Ummel and Berta Marie (Pruitt) Ummel. He died on Saturday, March 31, 2018 in Chickasha, Oklahoma, following a short illness.
Larry attended schools in Tyler from first grade through high school. He was a 1961 Graduate of John Tyler High School. In 1966, he received his Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Following this he enlisted in the United States Army and spent his basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. After his regular duty, he remained in the Army National Guard until February 1972.
Once he completed his active duty, he and his wife, CraigAnn, along with their two daughters and one son, moved to Kilgore, Texas, where he assumed the position of Art Director for Region VII Education Service Center – a Division of Texas Education Agency. Their son, Daniel, was born while living in Kilgore. In 1976, the family moved to Bryan/College Station, Texas, where Larry accepted an appointment with Texas A&M University, Division of Agricultural Communications. His department was responsible for the publication art work used by the Texas Agricultural Extension Service and the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station throughout the State of Texas.
In 1979, Larry decided to change careers. He was accepted by TAMU’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design and received his terminal degree in Urban and Regional Planning in 1981. His first position was with Oklahoma Economic and Development Association. This agency covered the entire Oklahoma Panhandle as well as the areas of Woodward, Seiling, etc. and part of his duties were to secure economic development grants for these areas. He was then contacted by the city manager of Chickasha to consider becoming the city’s first full time planner. His many Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) provided improved housing and rescue of historical structures. He was instrumental in acquiring the old Post Office and Federal Court Building by the City of Chickasha for use as its City Hall. He also went through the process of getting it registered with the State of Oklahoma Historical District. In order to acquire this registration, even the paint on all of the building’s eaves had to be scraped and analyzed to ensure the original colors were used in its upgrade.
Larry was also an ordained deacon, a member of the counting committee, head of the greeter ministry and a charter member of a brand-new church. He also volunteered at the Cornerstone Soup Kitchen with his youngest son, Daniel. He was currently an active member of College Heights Baptist Church. Without a doubt, however, his greatest accomplishments were loving his wife, CraigAnn, “as Christ loved the church”, raising a Christian family, and being given the opportunity to see his two sons follow in his teachings and examples in being a Christian husband and never missing an opportunity to keep their children close to God.
Larry was preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Mac.
He is survived by his wife, CraigAnn, of the home; two daughters, LynnAnn Barrett of Mineola, Texas and SueEllen Ummel of Blanchard; two sons, Dr. David Ummel and wife, Shannon, of White Oak, Texas and Daniel Ummel and wife, Beth, of Blanchard; eight grandchildren, Rick Davis, Ryan Burgess, Lauren Ummel, Luke Ummel, David Ummel, Joseph Ummel, Samuel Ummel, and Abigail Ummel; sister-in-law, Ellen Ummel; and other extended family and friends.
A family visitation will be held Monday, April 2nd from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home.
Larry’s wishes were that in lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Buckner Children & Family Services, East Texas Ministries, 110 East Cotton, Longview, TX 75601 or to the College Heights Baptist Church Building Fund.
Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
