Obituary
Shera Dee Black Helms, 72, of Tyler, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, in Tyler. Mrs. Helms, a retired schoolteacher at John Tyler High School, was born on Feb. 9, 1943, in Tyler to Herbert Ralph and Dessie Dee Wright Black. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and East Texas State University-Commerce. She married Wylie Clyde Helms in 1964. She was a longtime educator, retiring in 2010.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her father and is survived by her sons, Michael Helms, Steven and his wife Connie Helms, Shane and his wife Tonda Helms; her mother, Dee Black Parker; sisters, Tish Taylor and Glenda Bailey; brothers, Wayne, and his wife Vicki Black, Jerry and his wife Lynn Black, Randy and his wife Debbie Black; and grandchildren, Lane, Logan, Courtney, Brooke, Rogan, Carson, Tavis, Tallen and Taylor.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home, 12053 Texas Highway 64 West, Tyler. Funeral services will also be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, with Pastor J.A. Griffin Sr. officiating.
Interment will follow at Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery.
