Died on August 16, 1972, in Kilgore, Texas.
He is buried in Bascom (West) Cemetery in Tyler, Texas.

He married Linda Carol CASEY on December 24, 1965.     

They had the following children:

i. Stacy Glyn Thornton
On June 8, 1970, he divorced Linda Carol CASEY.
On February 25, 1972, he married Bettie Anne HOPKINS.
They had the following children:
i. Christopher James Thornton

The following was sent to me by his son Chris

"James E. Thornton was my father. I don't know a lot about him because he was killed in a car accident about a month before I was born."
