William Joseph Ruane

Poughquag- William Joseph Ruane, 68, a resident of Poughquag since 1973, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 21, 2011.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on Sept. 18, 1942, he was the son of the late William Francis and Mary (Murphy) Ruane. Bill served in the US Navy from 1962 - 1966 and on November 8, 1969, he married Elizabeth Roche at St. Raymond's Church in the Bronx. He began his career as an electrician with the NYC Transit Authority and later became a detective with the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office. He was a communicant of St. John's Church in Pawling, a life member of the Beekman Fire Dept., past Town of Beekman Councilman, and retired from the Dutchess County Sheriff's office.

He is survived by his wife at home; son, William John, and wife, Annina; daughter, Kelly Ann Turturro, and husband, Michael; granddaughter, Ella, who was his pride and joy; sister-in-law, Linda Nagle; nieces, Deborah and Susan; great-niece, Katherine; and great-nephew, Gil. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Eugene Ruane.

Friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 E. Main St., Pawling on Thurs., June 23rd from 4-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Fri., June 24th at 11am at St. John's Church, 39 E. Main St., Pawling. Burial will follow in The Clove Cemetery, Clove Road, Unionvale.
