In Memory

Liz McWHIRTER (Paul)

Pahl, Elizabeth Mary Corry (nee McWhirter)
March 11, 1946 - February 9, 2014
It is with much love and heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Liz (Ali). Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, predeceased by her parents Sam and Corrie, survived by her loving family including son Scott (Lyndsy), grandchildren Graesha, Lyla, spiritual daughter Danielle, siblings Jack, Trish, Maureen, Bill, Brian, nieces and nephews Ryan, Jason, Brittany, Jordan, Dayna, Jenna, Nicholas, Meghan, Brigid, Morgan and their families. Ali was born in the Netherlands, crossing the Atlantic as an infant in her mother's arms aboard the "Lady Nelson", arriving in Halifax at the historic Pier 21 and soon after arrived in Vancouver where she grew up in a large loving family. Ali attended King Edward High and Eric Hamber Secondary. Ali married Dan Pahl in 1965; soon after Scott arrived and the family settled in Burnaby. She was a very loving and devoted mother to Scott who was the apple of her eye. She had a rich sense of humour, loved to laugh, had a flair for gourmet cooking, and loved travelling the world. Her upbeat personality was infectious; she was lovingly referred to as the "sage" of the family and was adored by all. Ali started her career with RBC in 1975 making many friendships along the way which remained dear to her heart. She retired in 2012, spending her time vacationing in Mexico and especially loved her time with Scott, Lyndsy, Graesha, and Lyla. Ali bravely battled cancer twice, showing incredible strength and courage. We will all miss her dearly and she will remain always in our hearts. A celebration of her life will be held at the Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Road, Richmond BC, on Feb. 23 at 1 pm, with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or BC Children's Hospital.

From Simon Fraser Elementary School days, Elizabeth will always be young to me.  I remember Mr. McIntyre saying Elizabeth McWhirrrter! in his fake Scottish accent.
