JOHN ROBERT SANDERS JR.

John Robert (Bobby) Sanders Jr. passed on Oct. 3, 2019, at So José Hospital, Lisbon, Portugal at 68. Bobby was born on Sept. 11,1951 in Sarasota, Florida and graduated from Venice High in 1970, where he was very active in sports.

He served in the U.S. Army as a radioman from 1973-1976.

He was skilled at cooking and plumbing, eventually working in maintenance for the Monroe County Jail.

The Sanders lived for 17 years in the Keys and Key West before retiring to Lisbon in July 2018 and were very happy with their choice of location for retirement, quickly making friends and becoming an integral part of their neighborhood.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Patrice, his brothers, Richard Lewis (Kaye) of Orlando, Ben Sanders (Nancy) of Bradenton; sisters Barbara Marvin of Englewood, Sandra Morgan of Englewood, and Joyce Burroughs of Tallahassee. He was preceded in death by his brother Eugene Lewis of Osprey.

A service will be held on Friday, Nov. 15, at 2:30 p.m. at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, Florida 34241. A reception will follow at the home of Sandra Morgan, 1335 Seahorse Lane, Englewood, Florida 34224.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Volunteers of America Veterans Program, 1619 Truesdale Court No. 6, Key West, FL 33040.
