Obituary of Albert "Al" H. Johnston

IN THE CARE OF

Rosewood Funeral Chapel

Albert “Al” was born August 6, 1942, in Neosho, MO to Lawrence Johnston Sr and Meta Forester Johnston. He would often joke that he wasn’t born in Texas but he got here as fast as he could. Al was a businessman and devoted family man. He started working for the Victoria Advocate in 1954 at age 12 throwing a paper route on his bicycle in downtown Victoria and retired in 2007 after nearly 47 years of service. He was also a proud United States Marine and served from 1961-1964. In 1966 he married his wife of 58 years, Linda Haschke and they settled in Victoria to raise their 3 children Bradley, Michael, and Dawn. Al loved deer hunting, playing golf, and watching football. He worked for VISD for 15 years as the spotter at the Friday night football games and retired from that position when his grandson started to play high school football because he didn’t want to miss watching him play. Al (also known as Pop Pop) loved his grandkids. He loved being present for his grandkids and rarely missed a school program or sporting event.

Al is survived by his wife, Linda Haschke Johnston; brother, Roscoe Johnston; son, Bradley Johnston and his wife, Sonya; son, Michael Johnston and his wife, Jody; daughter, Dawn Stumfoll and her husband, Mark. Grandchildren: Kye Johnston, Allee Johnston, Hayden Stumfoll, Cullen Stumfoll, Ellasyn Stumfoll, Emerie Stumfoll, Alyssa Johnston, Shelby Cline, Samantha Johnston, Jessica Fink, and Jasmine Johnston; 5 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way.

Proceeded in death by his parents and brother Lawrence Johnston Jr.

Pallbearers: Ray Goodwin, Bruce McDonald, John Tait, Gordon Harris, Bill Cole and Ken Isbell.

Honorary Pallbearers: Les Blanchett and 2022 Industrial Cobra Varsity Football Team

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Al’s memory may be made to Industrial Athletic Booster Club, PO Box 497, Inez TX 77968; or First English Lutheran Church, 516 N. Main, Victoria TX 77901.
