Grace Zirjacks (Faulkner)
I have so many memories of John, we were in scouts together, we were in band (7th and 8th grade) until I dropped out. We both worked at Neumann´s Market while in Junior College. And I certainly, have countless memories of going fishing with John and his brother, Charles. But my favorite memory of John and Lillian was the day Grace (my wife) and I got married. John and Lillian stopped by our house the morning of the wedding (September 10, 1966) and when I answered the door, there they stood holding a gift. I said something to the effect “thanks, but you could have left it at the Church.” John immediately said, "this isn´t for you, it´s for your mother." You see, September 10th was also my mother’s birthday, and John had remembered, and he told my mom, he and Lillian wanted to be sure she got some attention and appreciation as well. They sang “Happy Birthday” and presented her with her present. I don´t remember what the present was, but I was very moved by how thoughtful it was that they remembered my mom. I always smile when I remember that moment.
