I was at DeTar Hospital when they brought Billie, Kathy Gerhold was the nurse that was in the E.R. She came out and told us he was not going to make it . I was there with my family and we were waiting a while trying to save him, he was so young, all I could think of was the days we walked to school and home to Crain Junior High, talking about classes and home work and friends, throwing rocks at each other and teasing about crushes at our tender ages in the warm sun , sitting at Fergusions Drug Store and blowing straws at each other and laughing. We never dreamed we would lose him so soon. Fond memories old friend, Mary Sue
Billy was my best friend, my boyfriend, through most of the time I was growing up. He spent Sunday evenings with my family at the drive-in movie. We went out in his old Pontiac when he and Richmond could agree on who got the car. I remember spending hours at the Jet drinking cokes and watching everyone else drive by. He was a very fine young man. It was a huge shock just last year when I heard from Richmond that he'd died so long ago. Very big loss.
I met Billy when our families moved to Mesquite Lane, and we went to Shields. He must have been good at throwing rocks at girls because I remember him throwing them at me on Arroyo on the way to school at Sheilds. But then I was such a tomboy, I threw them right back. As neighbors, we went on to Crain and then VHS together. He's always had a special spot in my heart.

Billy O'Neill was one of the first new friends I made at Crane. We used to double date together. He was fun to be around.
