Betty Gail Charles (Langley)

Paul -- I just now watched the video. Oh my goodness? It was great. You did an absolutely fanastic job of capturing everyone. It is a reunion I will cherish and never forgot. I enjoyed getting to visit with everyone and I, like Mary Ann, wish I could have spent more time individual time with everyone.

Thanks to everyone for making it such a great reunion. Love to you all.

THANKS FOR CARING PAUL. MY SISTER MEANS THE WORLD TO ME AND I AM SO GREATFUL THAT EVERYTHING WENT OK. HOPEFULLY IN A FEW WEEKS SHE'LL BE FEELING MUCH BETTER

Mary Ann Johnson (Null)

Lavanna - Where does your sister live? My sister just went through a health concern, but appears to be fine now. She is 70 years old and that blows my mind - I remember when my mom was in her 70's and it doesn't seem that long ago.
Carla - I accepted a job in Broken Arrow and may have lost the edge that I had on you, as far as summer vacation. I start the 5th - when do you go back? When I sell my house, I will relocate to the Tulsa area. Hope it's soon, as that's a long commute.

Judy - Thank you for doing the lion's share of work on the reunion. You have put in so much over the years and I really appreciate it. Most of us just sailed into a decorated room and enjoyed the food ( and company) that magically appeared. Thank you for all the time, effort and money that you lovingly put in, so that others could enjoy memory lane one more time!

Judy - I second Mary Ann's note. You worked tirelessly and managed to herd a bunch of cats into this reunion. You earned a much deserved rest.

MARY ANN- MY SISTER LIVES OUTSIDE OF CHELSEA, OK. THEY CALL IT BUSHYHEAD. SHE LIVES ON A FARM, BUT THEY DON'T FARM ANYMORE. SHE'S 71. SHE'S HAD ALOT OF MAJOR HEALTH PROBLEMS. BUT SHE IS SO STUBBORN, SHE INSISTS ON DOING EVERYTHING HERSELF. I GUESS THAT'S WHY SHE'S LIVED SO LONG. WHEN I WAS BORN WE LIVED OUT ON A FARM, AND MY MOM AND DAD WERE OUT FARMING ALL DAY, SO MY OLDEST SISTER SHARON TOOK CARE OF ALL THE KIDS. I THOUGHT SHE WAS MY MOTHER. WHEN I WAS 3, WE MOVED INTO TOWN AND I FOUND OUT I HAD A DIFFERENT MOTHER, AND I DIDN'T LIKE HER. WHEN I WAS 5 MY SISTER GOT MARRIED AND LEFT, I WAS SO LONELY I WANTED MY MOMMY BACK. I VISITED THEM ON WEEKENDS AND SPENT AS MUCH TIME AS I COULD WITH HER AND MY BROTHER-IN-LAW. THAT WAS THE GOOD MEMORIES I HAD OF MY CHILDHOOD.

Bruce - Did you by chance write the speech out (or can you remember it well enough to write again for the Forum)?
Lavanna - I'm really sorry about your sister, I know that is hard, being so far away. Thankfully, she is past this part and I pray that she improves!

Group - I had more fun a week ago than I've had in awhile and certainly more fun than last night. Thank goodness for Hallmark channel! In truth, reunions are wonderful and bittersweet, at the same time. Some of us weren't there and some won't be there next time. All of us got a good dose of reality (you know, seeing all those other old people). But was it worth it? "Oh, yes"! We turned out to be pretty responsible citizens and we're still fun! Born to Be Wild, sixties backdrop and all! God bless us all!

Well Mary Ann, It was an extemporaneous speech but one I did give thought to. It went something like this...

"We find ourselves here today as a product of the adult lives that we started together. Our experience, whether as friends or foe, has served us in this journey of life; it was a gift to each other. This reunion, being a stop on the pathway of life, celebrates where we find ourselves today. We can thank each other for that."

In other words, our experience in High School is unique to us collectively. I choked up a little as I was writing this, so I'm pretty sure this is close. And, later in the evening Charley Remund quoted a speech from our graduation to me, he said Chuck Donaldson gave it, that carried the same theme. Still kinda freaks me out.

BRUCE- THAT WAS A VERY HEART WARMING SPEECH....AND I JUST CHECKED OUT YOUR PICTURES. I BET IT BROUGHT BACK SOME MEMORIES OF A LONG TIME AGO. I WENT BACK TO OKLA. IN 2006 FOR MY SISTER'S 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. THEY TOOK ME TO VINITA, AND I COULDN'T BELIEVE THE CHANGES. WE WENT BY THE OLD HOUSE WHERE I GREW UP ON NORTH 5TH ST. I TOOK A PICTURE OF IT, BUT OF COURSE IT DIDN'T LOOK THE SAME, IT HAD BEEN ADDED ON TO. BUT THE LIGHT POLE WAS STILL OUT FRONT. I REMEMBER HAVING A PICTURE TAKEN BY THAT LIGHT POLE. I WAS SO THIN MY FAMILY SAID THE ONLY WAY THEY COULD TELL WHICH ONE WAS THE LIGHT POLE, WAS BECAUSE I WAS WEARING A LONG YELLOW FORMAL.
MARY ANN- THANKS FOR YOUR CONCERN AND YOUR PRAYERS. I HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH YOUR BIG SIS ALSO.

Janis Ann (Jan) Dirickson (Marshall)

Hi everyone, we have been on the go since returning from Vinita. Tomorrow we start on the spare bedroom just in case anyone comes to visit. We are going to put mud on the walls and then paint,oh and knock that stupid popcorn stuff off the ceiling. Obviously Dick and I haven't had enough stress in our marriage, traveling 3000 miles and now re-doing a couple of rooms. We live for the challenge. I sure enjoyed the reunion. I just wish more of the class could have been with us. It was a nice time. And Judy did such a good job as usual. Nothing ever left half way. The pictures I took turned out good if I could just figure how to get them on the site. I will try, Paul I think I need your help..

Paul- Your video was great even though it did bring me to tears seeing how "home" has changed. They say you can't go home again, wow is that ever true. But luckly when I think back to all the fun and great times, my mind takes me to the old Vinita. Or is that selective recollection?

Bruce- Your speech was wonderful and I got it. Thanks. I do wish I could remember Chuck's graduation speech, obviously Charlie has more brain cells to remember with than I.

Lavanna- I'm glad your sister is ok, being away from family is so much harder as we all get older..

Carla Ray Williams (Yocum)

Mary Ann-I start back on August 17th the whole week is inservice! Nicky is scheduled for a C-section on the 24th at noon, That is my first day of school!
You will love Broken Arrow! My parents and my sister use to live there! When I come to visit Bill's family in Owasso we will have to get Susan and go have lunch!

Judy-I did not get to make it...but knowing you I know it was awesome!

Paul-Thanks so much for making me feel like I was there You have an incredible talent! Is it a hobby or an occupation?
By the way...my dad told me in his trunk full of pictures there is a picture of you, Mary Ann and me in a Sunday School class at First Baptist! When it settles down and I go through the storage shed and locate the pictures I will e-mail you guys a picture.

Jan-Sorry I did not get to see you! I am glad you made a safe trip! I am not at all surprised you are starting a remodel project! We have to get those projects done while we can still get around without a walker!

Bruce-I heard your speech was a tear jerker...sorry I missed it! I am impressed that Charlie remembered Chuck's speech! I did not even remember that he gave one!

Lavanna-I am thankful that your sister's surgery went well. My younger sister had some serious back and neck surgery last year and it is scary!!! There is such a special bond between sisters! She is 7 years younger than I am so I felt like I was her mother!

CARLA AND JAN- THANKS FOR YOUR KIND WORDS, MY SISTER AND I ARE VERY CLOSE. WHEN I WENT TO VISIT IN 2006 I SPENT A WHOLE MONTH WITH HER BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE THE LAST TIME I SAW HER ALIVE. IT WAS AN EMOTIONAL GOODBYE. I JUST PRAYED TO THE LORD THE OTHER NIGHT THAT I COULD HAVE ONE MORE TIME TO SEE HER AND SPEND SOME TIME WITH HER. I HOPE HE ANSWERS THAT PRAYER.

Carla - Those pictures your dad found must be of us as little kids. I can't imagine when they could have been taken.

Photography has been a hobby since I was in high school. The only camera I could afford then was a cheap Polaroid. Thanks for the complement on the pictures. I'm too much of a perfectionist. I always look at my pictures and try to figure out how they could have been better.

I ...I just saw Paul's video. Good job Paul! We...(sigh) really thought for awhile we would be there. Even penciled in on the calendar. Trying to get Sam set up in college for this fall and California's unwillingness to come up with a state budget this year...just threw all kinds of "monkey wrenches" into our plans. Starting August Jan will take a 10 percent pay cut...in some vain effort for the state to balance their budget. (yuck) That was pretty much the final straw.

I love each and everyone of ya...but dang folks a few of us need to hit the gym...ocassionally! LMAO!!! (present company included of course) No, its so weird not having seen most of you since those glorious days...to have that mental picture in my mind and then to see the pics of today. Let's see...in the words of my 17 year old daughter...AHHHHH! It burns!...ROFL

Ya' all looking GOOD! (smile) To all and yours from me and mine. God Bless You, Hugs

John

Johnny - My Gawd, he's alive. Where you been hiding all this time? What's this about hitting the gym... we've only had about 40 years of good living. But, I'm sure you noticed that some of us look just as good or better than we did in high school...oops... need to put on the reading glasses again...;)

Honestly, we are still a very good looking bunch....

WELL JOHNNIE JOHNSON, I THOUGHT YOU HAD LEFT THE FACE OF THE EARTH. I'VE MISSED PICKING ON YOU AND I WAS HOPING TO SEE A PICTURE OF YOU AT THE REUNION. I UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE MONEY SITUATION, I'M LIVING ON DISABILITY AND A VERY SMALL PENSION I AM FORTUNATE TO GET MY BILLS PAID AND GROCERIES BOUGHT EVERY MONTH. I'M GLAD MY BOYS ARE ALL GROWN AND ARE FACING THEIR OWN PROBLEMS AND LIVING THEIR OWN LIVES. I COULDN'T IMAGINE HAVING ANOTHER MOUTH TO FEED. YOUR A GOOD FATHER TO HELP YOUR DAUGHTER GO TO COLLEGE AND GET HER SET UP FOR THE COMING YEAR. YOU HAVE BEEN MISSED ON THE FORUM.

Group - Well some of you must have been raised from the dead - good to hear from you!

Carla - I don't know if I will live in BA or Tulsa -we'll see, when my house sells. I just have to go to 2 and 1/2 extra days of meetings because I'm "new". I have to be there bright and early this Wed. I'd like to see that Sunday School picture (and maybe pay you to "lose" it). My mother gave me the the stupidest hairdo's then!

Bruce - Wow on the speech! I like the part about "whether friend or foe" contributing to our lives. That's so true, because even the negative experiences contribute to the fabric of our being and the strengths that we develop. Because I mainly had the same friends from kindergarten on, I didn't experiences a lot of rejection in school (mine was experienced later) - but still there were "bumps," as there were for everyone. We were the salmon, trying to swim upstream to adulthood and somehow survive. And we did!
Bruce, I know you were in kindergarten, because you were my first boyfriend (it was the swinging in opposite directions and repeatedley saying - "hello - goodbye" - what romance)! Does anyone else remember kindergarten or the teacher's name. I know we went to her house, in the addition across from the Country Club.

08/03/09 10:21 PM #891

Paul Ray Wever

Mary Ann - I remember kindergarten well. Her name was Mrs. White. Remember she had a horse and we rode on her sled down the hill when it snowed. I will never forget when they read the class history, my name came up when Joni Driskill said that I slapped her in kindergarten....:(

Paul-Speaking of history...I kept a scrapbook and I think I have every school newspaper from freshman year on! I had planned to bring them so we could have them to laugh at! I use to be in Journalism and helped write the paper with Lynnda Teague, Phyllis Fry, and Pat Dannels! We had a blast in that class!

The picture is of us at about age 4 or 5! My sister was over this weekend and says she remembers seeing it! I can't wait to find it!
I think your pictures were great shots! I thought you were a professional!

Johnnie- Glad you are back! I look in the mirror every morning and say "Who is that Old Woman??"
My grandson tells me, "your beautiful mamaw, I love your softie white hair," and that is all I care about! He and I put on football helmets and play football! Papa is our coach and we make signs to run through! It is the only exercize I get!

Judy do you think we could do a 45 year?
We might even want to do a tri-class.

Mary Ann- Wherever you live we will get together! The hairdos were all perms or pigtails back then!

I've re-edited the Our Town Video to polish it a little and give it bit more impact.
