Lavanna- Dead body??? Were Bill or Chuck involved?

04/02/09 08:16 AM #200

Lavanna M. Hawkins (Morgan)

STEVE- YES, WHEN WE WERE IN GRADE SCHOOL, I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT GRADE I WAS IN, BUT WE WERE OUT ON RECESS AND SOME BOYS FOUND A DEAD BODY LAYING BY THE CREEK BANK AND THE COPS WERE CALLED. WE WATCHED THEM DRAG THE BODY UP THE CREEK BANK AND THEN ONE OF THE TEACHERS MADE US GO INSIDE. WE STILL PEAKED OUT THE WINDOWS. I CAN'T REMEMBER WHO THE BOYS WERE BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN THEM THAT FOUND THE BODY.

Somebody find poor Bill and Chuck! They need to clear their good names! I have never heard so much gossip! Dead bodies?? I am so glad I was at Hall Halsell. The deadest thing we ever found was a bird! We had a funeral for it and burried it on the playground under a tree!! We said prayers and sang a song. We visited the grave daily. Then one day we found it had been dug up. Jimmy McLeary threw him in the trash. He got a whipping from Miss Ray!
Steve-Your granddaughter is beautiful! I bet she has you wrapped around her finger!!

NO CARLA, IT ISN'T GOSSIP, THERE TRULY WAS A DEAD BODY FOUND IN BULL CREEK. I THINK IT WAS A BUM, I NEVER DID FIND OUT FOR SURE WHO HE WAS, BUT IT WAS AN EXCITING DAY AT GRADE SCHOOL THAT DAY. DOES ANYBODY OUT THERE THAT WENT TO RIVERSIDE THAT REMEMBER THIS?

Steven Ray (Steve) Postier

It had to have been Bill or Chuck.

Remember how very religious we all were? Most all of us would go to that Chapel West of town (Timpson's) at least once a week.

I only hope everyone reads far enough to clear Mrs. McBee's reputation! I think you all were drinking - if you read the flow -there were like 10 conversations at once! I didn't know that Mrs Toutolotte ever fell over - she must have had Mrs. Tyler's old chair. Does anyone remember Mrs. Waldrop at Will Rogers - also another well endowed teacher. I hesitate to share this - for concern over where it may lead - but, my sister had her as a teacher in the days when women wore fake turtlenecks (dickies) under jackets. Mrs Waldrop forgot she was wearing a "dickie" rather than a blouse and took her jacket off in front of the class! My sister said that she never missed a beat, she just kept talking and put the coat back on. When I had her in class, her pop beads broke and went down her shirt and she picked them out, one by one,no matter how deeply they were buried.
Judy - I did understand that you didn't dance and that surprised me. I didn't know that you were shy - I sure never turned Wayne Tate down for a dance!
Ok, so I can assume that nobody knows about the guy that was struck by lightning. I know it's hard to sort them out since we lived among an assortment of crazies. I wonder how that has affected our outlook on life. The man I think you were referring to, Rhea, lived catty corner to Brenda Harp. He tried to pull me over once when I was riding my bike, I was about 12 and it really scared me - but he didn't drive fast enough to catch me! I heard that he did some things with a young boy for money. In this day and age, if it was as commonly known as it was then, he would be dealt with.
Was the band teacher Leon Jackson? If so, I think he's on classmates.com. I have laughed and laughed about him and Mr. Doodie Balls.
Carla - are you up that late and still working?
Steve and Bruce - Shangri La was a pretty good course, I think - but you better check because they are totally tearing down the old hotel to build a new one, so I don't know if the course is in operation or not.

Carla- Yes my granddaughter has me wrapped around anything she wants me wrapped around. She is the first girl in our family. We had 3 sons, then 2 grandsons, and now!!!!

I've told this to a lot of people, I can not think of anything better than a little girl that would crawl up in your lap and hug your neck. I can not think of anything worse than a 15 1/2 year old girl getting ready to 1) Date 2) Drive a car 3) go skinny dippin 4) Going to Joni's house practicing kissing 5) Riding around with someone like Jan and 21 of her closest friends smoking 6) Cheering her team on at the pep rally and being run over 7) Finding dead bodies in the creek by her school 8) Being followed home after baseball games by some old man that is probably a flasher or child molester (wait that was me).

Mary Ann- The guy struck by lightning, that was me.
Why do you think I was so good in track? I dyed that silver streak in my hair when I would come to school.

Judy- There is also a nice, new course in Miami. It is just East of the turnpike gate. They hosted a 'Hooters Tour' event last year. I don't know the name of it.

Mary Ann - I think the man who walked to town every day was Charlie Walker. He was raised and lived northwest of town. He was a little mentally challenged but growing up he was treated the same as his his brothers and sisters and was a productive person. He worked at the Sale Barn forever. He was a real nice guy. He died a few years ago. I hate to spoil the story, but he was never struck by lightening.
