Also this week, I see where Mrs Nell Simmons passed away.
Nell Mealing Simmons WALTERBORO - Mrs. Nell Mealing Simmons, wife of the late Marion Roberts Simmons, Jr., passed away Tuesday morning at the Colleton Medical Center. She was 93. Mrs. Simmons was born in North Augusta, April 17, 1921, a daughter of the late Robert Butler Mealing and Katherine Wilson Mealing. After graduating from Winthrop College, she taught history in the public school system in Colleton County until her retirement in 1986...a span of twenty-nine years. A faithful member of Bethel Presbyterian Church for over seventy years, she served as President of the Women of the Church, Deacon, Ruling Elder, and beloved Sunday School Teacher. She was honored in 2008 by being named an Elder Emerita. Mrs. Simmons was also a member of the Joseph Glover Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her children, Marion R. "Spike" Simmons III and his wife Gabrielle of Walterboro, and Catherine S. Hines and her husband Jim of Hartsville. There are four grandchildren: Matthew Hines, Kate Pennington, Rob Simmons, and Kim Crouse, as well as five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 in Bethel Presbyterian Church, with burial following in the Live Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 in the Church Sanctuary. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the church.
