To understand what a unique and remarkable person Clif was, it is helpful to know a little more about his life before and after high school.

Met Clif when he entered Webster Elementary in third grade. We had different teachers, but they introduced us because they thought we could build a friendship around both having moms who were war brides from England. They were right as we became lifelong friends. I remember the first time we played at his house in Tosa. He had his sister’s transistor radio on, and he sang along to the Mama and Papas hit California Dreamin as we played with Match Box carsClif was very proud of his English heritage and loved English sports cars but ironically owned two Porsches. Clif also was very proud of his father who flew missions over Germany as the bombardier on B-17 Flying Fortress.

Clif was one of those very fortunate guys. He met Jayne and they were a perfect match. She was the love of his lifeNever saw them argue or in conflict. Only saw true love and affection. She adored his adventurous side while putting guardrails on it to keep him safe. They have two daughters who are beautiful, smart, and like Clif, gifted athletes who competed for UW in track and field. Clif was a dedicated father who coached their elite youth volleyball teams and taught them how to do high jump and pole vaulting when their interests changedThey also inherited Clif’s adventurous sole.

Hanging with Clif was always fun as he had no fear. He was an expert sky diver; he swam with the sharks without a cage: “You just push against their noses if they get too close”. After attending an F1 race in Austin, we stumbled across the club where Max Verstappen was having his victory party. Without passes and clearly entering someplace we didn’t belong Clif says: “Just act like you belong and no one will say a thing.” He was right. Life was an adventure for him.

Clif became a self-taught money manager/financial advisor. He was an expert in crypto currencies before they became “a thing”. He had his own successful business. Relatively recently he and Jane bought a condo in the Third Ward and the adventure continued. Clif, Jayneand Ziggy (their dog) became well known in local establishments. Everyone greeted him by name, and they were happy to see him. He and Ziggy wercelebrities in the Third Ward.

It will be very difficult to have a summer in Wisconsin without ClifThere was a unique, thoughtful, generous, loving, and deeply kind guy under the fun-loving exterior. He made everyone feel happy. There is a void that no one else can fillClif, we miss you.

I was so sad to hear about Clif's passing. What a fun guy he was, so full of life! The topic of that accident came up at work and I told my co-workers that I graduated from high school with him. They were all like, "WHAT?" as they were assuming it was someone younger! I said yep, 70 years old. Sounds like he had a great life!❤️❤️

Sorry old buddy.   Unfortunately, your Celebration of Life falls on the same day as the 1 year anniversary of my wife Nanci's death.   I will have family here with me so I will not be able to attend.  RIP.

I really was so saddened by the news of Cliff's passing.... I remember Cliff distinctly from Mrs. Eichelberger's class..... He used to make me laugh so hard..... Especially during the films she used for history class!  My sincerest and deepest condolences to his family🩷  He possessed boyish good looks, and a daring & charming personality!

My most indelible memories of Clif are from the times he made me laugh or squirm the hardest. When the bus stopped to pick up Clif in the morning on the way to Longfellow Junior High, you never knew what you were going to get. He was quite the gymnast, so he occasionally treated us to an acrobatic stunt. Once, I recall him walking on his hands all the way down the aisle to his seat. Another time, he extracted my violin from its case and actually played a tune! Clif enjoyed greeting us by name -- or rather, by the nicknames he assigned to us. Mine was Dawny-Doo. I didn't particularily like mine, but there was no appealing his decision. At the very least, he made us grimace on the way to a smile.

Once we got to Whitman, Clif and I would sometimes stop at Bob's Big Boy for toast and a drink. We'd chat for few minutes and then hurry to pay our check, usually with a pile of pennies. The bill was always less than a dollar, but it was a hilariously annoying amount of pennies for the cashier. Fond memories!

A few years later, I recall Clif (with-one-F) introducing me to his then-girlfriend, Jayne-with-a-Y. Even his future wife started with unique nickname dynamic! That match was magic and so was his love for his daughters. I had the pleasure of getting together with them a couple times over the years, most recently was just before our 50th class reunion at their place in the Third Ward.

In recent years, Clif would occasionally message to me via LinkedIn with some words of encouragement and Girl-Power memes. I loved those messages, but, true to form, they always began with a "Hey Dawny-Doo!"

RIP, my dear friend.
