My most indelible memories of Clif are from the times he made me laugh or squirm the hardest. When the bus stopped to pick up Clif in the morning on the way to Longfellow Junior High, you never knew what you were going to get. He was quite the gymnast, so he occasionally treated us to an acrobatic stunt. Once, I recall him walking on his hands all the way down the aisle to his seat. Another time, he extracted my violin from its case and actually played a tune! Clif enjoyed greeting us by name -- or rather, by the nicknames he assigned to us. Mine was Dawny-Doo. I didn't particularily like mine, but there was no appealing his decision. At the very least, he made us grimace on the way to a smile.

Once we got to Whitman, Clif and I would sometimes stop at Bob's Big Boy for toast and a drink. We'd chat for few minutes and then hurry to pay our check, usually with a pile of pennies. The bill was always less than a dollar, but it was a hilariously annoying amount of pennies for the cashier. Fond memories!

A few years later, I recall Clif (with-one-F) introducing me to his then-girlfriend, Jayne-with-a-Y. Even his future wife started with unique nickname dynamic! That match was magic and so was his love for his daughters. I had the pleasure of getting together with them a couple times over the years, most recently was just before our 50th class reunion at their place in the Third Ward.

In recent years, Clif would occasionally message to me via LinkedIn with some words of encouragement and Girl-Power memes. I loved those messages, but, true to form, they always began with a "Hey Dawny-Doo!"

RIP, my dear friend.
