The Indian Chat Room is open, so if you are on the site, try it out. You may get lucky & find someone in there to chat with. Think about a time that may work so that we can set up a group chat. Thanks for all the kudos for the site. It was relatively easy to set up & Suzi has been working on it as well. Kinda fun to actually mess around with it. I think we are just getting fired up about the reunion even though it is a long way off yet.

Thought I'd share a funny email you might appreciate written for the under 30 crowd...

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning ... uphill BOTH ways

Yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!

But now that... I'm over the ripe old age of Thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a d@mn Utopia!

And I hate to say it but you kids today, you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have the Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the d@mn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!! There was no e-mail!! We had to actually write somebody a letter...with a pen!

Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the d@mn record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it! And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever!

And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just screwed!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15 channels and there was no on-screen menu and no remote control! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your a$$ and walk over to the TV to change the channel and there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-&astards!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had to use the stove or go build a frigging fire..

Imagine that! If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing and shake it over the stove forever like an idiot.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980! ; 0 )

missy--that was hilarious :) i've seen something similar to that before :) if i find it i'll post it. It had something to do with how "safe" everyone is today...like never drinking out of garden hoses and how our friends' parents would never hesitate to rap us along the head if we were not behaving ...love it :)

11/28/08 12:42 AM #16

Amy Shubert (Rumler)

Missy, that was dead on. The only thing that's missing is that we had to write term papers after researching at the library. Now, my daughter is given the option of doing a powerpoint presentation or poster for a grade. And nobody flunks anymore, that would be bad for their "self-image". "No child left behind." But they are all left behind anymore. But maybe that's just Indiana schools since most of the younger people I have worked with here don't even seem to know how to alphabetize let alone spell correctly.

I remember when my kids were in elementary school and brought home papers with misspelled words but were given credit for it because they spelled the words phonetically.

Sorry, stepping down from my soapbox.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!

That was so funny missy.i remember waiting all day to tape a song off the radio, and atari was the best, lol. And no Amy,it's not just where you live, sadly it's every where. My nephew is going to the middle school(I miss calling it Antietam)next year, and is only on a second grade reading level. He is flunking in other areas as well because no one can help him with his home work.He asked me for help one day and it was something like~~look at the triangle on the left and give me the circumforance of the left angle as it relates to x,I was like WHAAAAT????my sixth grade year we were learning the times tables.

11/29/08 03:50 PM #18

Heidi Aughinbaugh (Bowers)

Missy, this is so true. The funny thing is that my husband and I still have an atari system! my kids(and grandkids) laugh at us and can't believe that "we had video games back then"
Hope to see everyone at the 25th.

Julie Nunemaker (Nunemaker)

Missy, I just read you message and I just laughing my butt off because it is so true. Yes I also believe the kids have it made today and I wish they could go back in time and walk in our shoes for a day and see how it was for us.

OK, fellow classmates! It is time to ask the million dollar question. Are you ready? I sure hope so, because here it comes:

HOW MANY OF OUR CLASSMATES HAVE YOU SHARED THIS SITE WITH?

Please respond here & let me know how many! And if you haven't yet, hurry up & share it so you can have a number. We are sitting near 75-80 classmates and we need to do better. The winner will get a drink or two on the reunion committee. I know, I will win because I sent it out, but I will buy the drinks for whom ever contacted the most.

AND, if you did find out from someone other than me, send me a message to let me know so I can track this!

ENJOY!

BRAD

Not only have I told OUR classmates, but I have told people in the classes before and after ours. I see a lot of people through my job and thought it would help spread the word. Actual class members I shared this with would be:

Kevin Hess
John Shindledecker
John Huff
Melissa Smith
Kris Martin
Sharon Freeman
Michelle McFerren
Chris Stefanic

Do you think we will get everyone before the actual reunion?

12/18/08 09:15 PM #25

Brad Kohler

Susan,

I think we are doing pretty good, but there have been many that we have been unable to track down since 1985. Each year it gets harder. But we are certainly off to a great start! Keep spreading the word! Did any one else from any of the other classes start up a site through class creators? That would be cool. Tried to help my brother Bill do one for the class of 1984 but I don't think he has yet.

Brad

Brad,

No one else has said anything about websites for their class. I will keep spreading the word! Thanks again for all the hard work you all are putting into this.

OK WASHS Class of 1985, we are nearing the century mark, and we need to continue to spread the word! I know for a fact that there are classmembers out there that know about the site & have been on the site, but haven't signed up yet. I won't mention any names...Eric McKendrick.

Any way, keep sharing the site so that we can get the word out. Super job so far! As always, if you know someone's email or phone number andthey haven't joined yet, send them the link.

Thanks
Brad
