In Memoriam

Kenneth Robert Heineman

Ken Heineman (November 27, 1941 - September 12, 2021)

Ken was born in Chicago, but he spent his early years growing up in Saint Louis, Missouri, in the Webster Groves area, where he was the youngest among his brothers, Hal and Laurie.

Ken attended Webster Groves High School and the University of Illinois as an undergraduate, and received his law degree from Washington University School of Law, where he graduated with honors.

Anyone who knew Ken understood that he was a man who found his calling in the law. His first job in that field was as an FBI agent, and later as a federal prosecutor. However, he spent the majority of a career that spanned decades as an attorney practicing civil litigation, during which he enjoyed a tremendous amount of professional fulfillment and success. Late in his career, he also taught a course at the Washington University School of Law.

However, the true joy of Ken’s life was found in his family. He was married to his wife, Mary, the love of his entire life, for over 50 years, and they were still together until his passing. He nurtured and provided for his children, Kenneth, Jr. and Suzannah; and later his three grandchildren, Samantha, Lindsey, and Andrew. Those that knew him professionally remember him with respect and admiration for his incomparable legal acumen; but for those that had the privilege to know him personally, he is beloved forever for his warmth, his unbreakable commitment to his family, and his irrepressible humor.

Kenneth R. Heineman passed away at age 79 on Sunday, September 12, 2021. Beloved husband of over fifty years to Mary Gudermuth Heineman; loving father of Kenneth R. (Tiffany) Heineman, Jr. and Suzannah Hessler; cherished grandfather of Samantha, Lindsey, and Andrew Hessler; dear brother of Laurie (Ludie) Heineman and the late Hal (Millie) Heineman; dear uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

A private memorial service was held for immediate family. Please consider a memorial in Ken’s name to: Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital 11365 Dorsett Road Maryland Heights, MO 63043
