Linda Janssen Manning (April 17, 1942 - August 26, 2016)

Linda Manning passed away at her home in Danville, CA on August 26, 2016 at the age of 74, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Born April 17, 1942 in Wichita, Kansas, she spent her early years in the Saint Louis suburb of Webster Groves, MO. She moved with her family to California in 1959 and met the love of her life, Jim Manning at a UC Berkeley fraternity party in November 1959.
Knowing he was The One, she married Jim at St Perpetua's Catholic Church in Lafayette, CA on June 18, 1960. She spent her early married life as an army officer's wife. Memorable times included being stationed at the Presidio of San Francisco where her son, William Ross was born in 1962, and at SHAPE in Paris, France where her daughter, Christine Ann was born in 1963.
After 9 years of active duty, Jim resigned his commission and they settled in California to raise their family. Linda was a loving wife and devoted mother but her intelligence, determination and energy prompted her to do more. At the age of 31 she enrolled at Cal State University, Hayward and subsequently graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA and a bachelor's degree in accounting. She embarked on a fulfilling and successful 17-year career at Chevron, holding various positions in Finance, including President of the Chevron Federal Credit Union.
Jim and Linda enjoyed an early retirement and traveled widely both abroad and touring the U.S. in their motorhome. Linda enjoyed skiing, hiking and boating at her beloved Lake Tahoe. She especially cherished time spoiling her 3 precious grandchildren. A diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer's was met with grace, strength and a determination to keep enjoying life.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jim; her daughter Christine Haller, son-in-law Doug Haller, and their 3 children, Tim, Jameson, and Madelyn of San Rafael, CA; sister Kathy Jones, brother-in-law Steve Jones of Medford, OR and their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, William Manning in 1988, and her mother Antoinette Janssen and father Harvey Janssen.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, Sept. 2nd at 11 am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in San Ramon, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven cemetery in Lafayette, CA. Friends are welcomed to attend.
Donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org/donate) or to St Jude Children's Research Hospital. (www.stjude.org)
