John and I continued our close friendship throughout the Vandy years into our last conversation a year ago. He put WG on the Vandy map. He heartily welcomed Sam into the WG reunions in spite of Sam's former coaching allegiance to Kirkwood. Marine brothers sealed the bond and the love we shared.
