Fred Sheppard (October 5, 1941 - January 15, 2023)

Fred A. Sheppard, Jr., 81, of Webster Groves, MO, peacefully passed away on January 15th next to his loving wife of 45 years. Fred was born on October 5th, 1941 to Fred and Myrtle Sheppard in St. Louis, MO. A lifelong Webster resident, Fred graduated from Webster Groves High School in 1959 before pursuing a degree in Engineering from Iowa State University. An avid athlete, Fred was a three-sport athlete at Webster Groves High School (track and field, wrestling, and football) and an Iowa State University wrestler. Fred was also a dedicated member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Upon graduating from ISU in 1964, Fred commissioned in the United States Army Corp of Engineers. After a successful 28-year career, Fred retired from the Army having achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Along with his military career, Fred had two more accomplished careers. Fred became the Chief Packaging Engineer at MOOG Automotive based out of St. Louis. After retirement from MOOG, Fred, later, became the Overnight Store Manager for Schnucks Supermarkets.

In 1977, Fred married Linda and settled down in his hometown of Webster Groves. Fred became a pillar in the community as he began a volunteer career as an ice hockey coach, official, and builder within numerous hockey organizations. Fred also coached CYC soccer, softball, and baseball. Fred will always be remembered for his cowboy hat and boots behind the bench and on the first baseline.

Fred is survived by his wife, Linda, his two sons: Fred III (Sarah) Sheppard and John Sheppard, and his three daughters: Heather (Geoff) Hobart, Stephanie Sheppard, and Ashleigh (Todd) Norris; his sister Louise (the late James) Wade; and his five grandchildren: Emelia, Hannah, Landon, Chase, and Avery. He's an uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend of many.

Visitation will be held at Fey Funeral Home on January 30th and 31st from 4-8 p.m. Visitation on February 1st at Annunciation Catholic Church in Webster Groves, MO from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at 10 a.m. Burial following at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road, Lemay, MO (Section IUU - Site 577)
