I was a working journalist -- first a reporter, then a copy editor, mainly covered labor and employment issues. I was fortunate to choose a career where I learned something new every day, just because of the nature of the work. I retired from Bloomberg in 2016.

Have been married for 26 years to husband David; two children; one grandchild.

Community theater, amateur cabaret singer, serve on executive board of Bowie Food Pantry in Bowie, Md.
School Story

I enjoyed competing in forensics competitions for Wheaton High at Montgomery County high school tournaments (our WHS debate team also did well at these tournaments). I competed in the "humorous" category for three years, and usually did pretty well, often winning first or second place.

However, there was ONE guy -- a young man who represented Walter Johnson High School and always wore a dark suit and a neck tie -- who always beat me in that category. ALWAYS. He really was very good, but I was frustrated that I could NEVER beat him.

I found out, a few years ago, that this fellow, Jonathan Hadary, is a Broadway actor, nominated for a Tony award and winner of a Drama Desk Award; he has been a professional actor his whole adult life.

I tried to beat him way back then, both for myself and because I wanted Wheaton High School to beat Walter Johnson.

Knowing this about him, I now don't feel so bad that he always won, but still, it would have been nice.

Hi Patty, hope all is well with you. I recently saw the classic film "Anatomy of a Murder," which as you know is about a murder that took place in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the early 1950s. It was a great film, the best courtroom drama I have ever seen, so I went and read the book it was based on. The descriptions in the book of the geographical beauty of the U.P., made me appreciate that you live in one beautiful location.
