I'm sad for your loss and sad for all those who appear "in memory"... and rather than 'do' Hallmark as a condolence, I'm sending some liturgy which, over the years, has honed the language of loss far better than I or Hallmark. I hope there is something that hits the heart of the matter for you. This passage, more accurately is a prayer & no, I'm not a deeply religious nor ritualistic person:
When cherished ties are broken, and the chain of love is shattered, only trust and the strength of faith can lighten the heaviness of the heart. At times, the pain of separation seems more than we can bear, but if we dwell too long on our loss we embitter our hearts and harm ourselves and those about us.
The Psalmist said that in his affliction he learned the law of God. And in truth, grief is a great teacher, when it sends us back to serve and bless the living. We learn how to counsel and comfort those who, like ourselves, are bowed with sorrow. We learn when to keep silence in their presence, and when a word will assure them of our love and concern.
Thus, even when they are gone, the departed are with us, moving us to live as, in their higher moments, they themselves wished to live. We remember them now; they live in our hearts; they are an abiding blessing.
THE SIDDUR, GATES OF PRAYER, FROM JUDAIC LITURGY
May the memory of your loved one be a source of continued blessings.
Happy B-Day, Mark! Say it ain't so, ... 70? Yikes, ... admired you from the sidelines as you QB'd the team and throughout our grade school days @ Richards...and recently met you while I was playing golf at the "outing" organized by your good friend David Bilgo - whom I still play golf with and hope to this summer... - david [David Cohn]

To WFB66 at large: Firstly to the committee especially Lee Hayes and his truly tireless efforts to track me down and include me; and to the committee which has not been thanked enough for their sacrifices, devotion of personal time, investment in a truly high quality gathering on all levels and who was the weatherman who got it perfect!!! ???? And to all the others, some who posted comments for me, some who spoke to me in person I have this:
I appreciate your response(s) and about high school ? ... sometimes we grow and mature because of our roots and sometimes despite them. Whatever part you played or remembered, it is small in relation to the larger picture. Thank you for compliments and acknowledgement of my service - we, all of us who served, can use that regardless of the year expressed and from whatever place and time. I think it is an Emerson quote as part of the Nicolet entrance cornerstone: “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” In high school we planted seeds of our adulthood. The times and milieu of high school some of us thought was a monumental and critical time in our lives; we began our journeys there. I can't speak for all of us, however looking in the rear-view mirror [I\we] often marvel at what we were, where we've been and what has become of us - collectively. Some journeys were linear, some halting, tripping & falling and still others scattered and honed by trial and error; yet others steeled by the crucible of life's measures and challenges. We are historians of our own lives.
Be safe out there and find comfort along the way. -david

On the eve...reunion 2016, 50 years:
From an article in Psychology Today titled Reunions: Why Do We Go? author Matthew Lieberman wrote:
"Humans are storytelling, story-loving creatures. All these folks from high school were in the story of our lives when it was at its most intense, with small, but magic-seeming, triumphs and earth shattering defeats that made tomorrow seem like an impossibility. None of us had any idea who we would be 25 years later [or, for this WFB crowd, 50 years later!] . . ., but now that that time has arrived we want to see how the stories played out."
Hoping all-y'all enjoy, discovery and engage in the Great Story we have in all of us. - david
A true renaissance man, social architect and a life example of "giving back" while clearly having a good time doing it. Our social fabric needs more like you and less like all the rest. I admire and respect your history and compliment you on "balancing the karma" and self-awareness.
