Wichita, Kansas - loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed peacefully to his heavenly home, April 10, 2021, two days before his 78th birthday. Tom was a man of faith, caring and generous with his time. He was always willing to lend a helpful hand and will be fondly remembered for his big hugs and warm smile. Tom was born in Wichita, the third child of Charles and Isobel Whitney. He was a proud graduate of North High and Friends University. He also attended WSU and was an avid Shocker fan. Tom met his wife, Pat, the day of his high school graduation. They were married in 1965 and were steadfast in their love for 55 years. Tom had a strong work ethic beginning with delivering the Wichita newspaper and working at his father's service station as a teenager. His career as a design engineer began in 1965 at Beech and continued at Cessna for 34 years. Tom's passions were family history, Wichita history and serving his community by delivering Meals on Wheels, giving trolley tours, and acting as a docent at the Wichita Historical Museum; however, his greatest passion was spending time with family. Tom is survived by his loving wife, Pat; daughters, Amy (David), Lori, and grandchildren, Riley, Whitney, Liam and Pierce; sister, Jane; brothers, Herb (Mary Sue), Mason (Miriam); nieces, nephews and friends.
